Report: Charles Woodson expected to visit Broncos

Charles Woodson said last week that he’s open to joining a rebuilding team if that’s what it takes to continue his NFL career.

He might not need to go that route. Vic Lombardi of CBS4 in Denver reports that Woodson is expected to visit the team as soon as this week to talk to them about the possibility of coming aboard for the 2013 season.

It’s the first sign of interest in Woodson’s services since his visit to the 49ers back in March, a stretch of inactivity that has led to multiple comments from Woodson about his lack of suitors around the league since getting released by the Packers, and it would be a good landing spot for a player who was pretty adamant about playing for a contender early in the offseason.

The Broncos have Rahim Moore and Mike Adams as their starters at safety, a duo that everyone involved with the team has been relentlessly positive about this offseason. Woodson would upgrade the depth for a team that’s clearly shooting for the Super Bowl right now, though, so this could wind up being a good fit on both sides.

  1. This is one of those pairings that is so obvious I can’t believe it hasn’t happened yet.

  2. This guys too serious on D to not bring him in…especially some of these contending teams. I still can’t believe the packers cut him, and i would love to see him join the Broncos after watching Rahim Moore look more like Bahjim Soore on that awful swat attempt in the playoffs.

  3. Would be a great signing. I expect it would be a one-year deal. Young safeties could learn a lot of him. His experience and leadership would be a great asset to the D.

  4. Sure, what’s one more over the hill CB anyway.

Now, him and Chump can talk about how great they used to be.

    SMH.

  5. Woodson can’t cover like he used to but he can still provide depth, plus he is great at blitzing and helping against the run. Great locker room guy to have, hope he signs and has a good year.

  6. I like this move,if we can get urlacher and Woodson that’ll be good,we need some veteran knowledge for our young linebackers, and secondary let’s do it it’s Super Bowl or bust.

  7. I know ppl are going to hate on this pairing, but I am a diehard Packer fan. Watched every game in the 2009 season when he was defensive player of the year, watched Chuck break his collar bone in the Super Bowl…heck when I was playing safety in midget ball as a young kid, I was trying to be Prime, and Chuck Woodson out of Michigan. This dude flat out BALLS. He may have lost a step, that’s why he doesnt play man, he plays safety now. This guy tackles everyone! He forces SOOOO many fumbles. He plays so much bigger then his frame! He is a solid player and will contribute. And when it is crunch time he will lead. His prensence in the locker room is worth the roster spot!!! The Packers should sign him to play this season. I which we would. He is our emotional leader. He is our surest thing on defense. The guy is sooo good. He is old and gets over looked, but he is a great player. He can start and he will do anything you ask of him. He can play Troy P ball and rush the qb up at the line, or he can get his Eddie $$$ Reed on and ballhawk. He gets his Ray Lewis on and inspires the team in the locker room. He foes a little Peanut Tillman and forces tons of fumbles, and he has some Antoine Winfield in him and tackles everything as a CB/FS

  8. I think this would be a great pick-up and agree, surprised this hasn’t happened yet–and yes, that play in the playoffs still boggles me; I can only imagine the sour taste it left in Broncos’ fans’ mouths. Couldn’t hurt to have depth and a game changer when healthy–don’t forget he is good at rushing the QB and causing fumbles too, which is always a great weapon to have on a a team.

  9. @capt desperate u serious we aren’t deperate ass bag look at when we bought in neil smith and co back in the day CHAMPIONSHIP!! eat it EL CAPT DUMBASS

  10. Thanks Charles,

I am a hurt RAIDER fan that paid for season tickets for 7 years!!!! (just to watch them set an NFL record with 11 + losses each of those seasons)

I will not wish you well for joining the Broncos.

I hope you get lit up and that this seasons proves you are finally done.

Thanks for getting paid like a Quarterback for several years in Oakland and not lifting weights, sleeping in practice and partying like a rock star.

Seems like you were always hurt in your Raiders years for us. Perhaps cause you were getting by with your God Given Talent.

Guess that’s human nature when you are young and gifted.

I do give him credit for playing the 2002 playoffs with a plate in his leg. (I think DB Tori James did the same)

Just tough too watch him “Tear it up” in GB when he was my favorite player.

If the Raiders go 2-14 next year.

I will pray that the two wins are against DENVER!!! Especially if “C-WOOD” there.

    Thanks!

If he join Denver, he will lose some respect from the NATION!!!

I’m sure that will keep him from sleeping. Go crawl back under your bridge in your precious little “nation”.

  12. Where does he fit? Champ and DRC are there. Drafted a great young talent last year in Omar Bouldin. Chris Harris was a terror last year and Tony Carter was also…they lead the team in INTs.

Bring him in for what? 1-2 years to only let Chris Harris not continue to build on what he did last year? Chirs Harris and Tony Carter are the future and can play now. DRC is there for a year, Woodson should be the same if he does come on board. Harris and Carter need to take over at some point.

Can’t believe the Packers cut him… at $10M this year?

    Really?
Once great, yes… a roll player, yes. $10M…
    No.
