After Ingram injury, Freeney to visit Chargers

Freeney

Some moves are easy to see coming.

In the aftermath of outside linebacker Melvin Ingram’s torn ACL yesterday, it was natural to wonder whether unemployed pass-rusher Dwight Freeney would be talking to the Chargers soon.

Wonder no more.

According to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego, Freeney will be visiting the Chargers today.

Freeney might not be a perfect fit in a a 3-4, but he did play in it last year for the Colts. He did so under head coach Chuck Pagano, the brother of Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano. And new Chargers GM Tom Telesco was in personnel with the Colts before coming to San Diego this offseason.

The 33-year-old Freeney had five sacks in 2012, but had seven double-digit sack seasons with the Colts.

The Chargers need him desperately, with only Jarret Johnson and disappointing former first-rounder Larry English at the position.
