Five gun and drug charges for Mike Goodson

Mike Goodson AP

Jets running back Mike Goodson was just the passenger this morning, but he’s far from off the hook.

Goodson was charged with five gun and drug counts Friday morning, after New Jersey State Police found the car he was riding in parked in the middle of Route 80 in Denville, N.J.

According to the release from the NJSP, a tow driver called 911 after finding a gray SUV parked in the center-left lane of the highway. The driver, Garant Evans, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Medics on the scene determined Goodson needed to be transported to the hospital, and a small amount of marijuana was found on him.

A subsequent search of the vehicle found a loaded gun and more marijuana. Goodson was taken back to Morris County Jail after he was released from the hospital, and charged with possession of marijuana (under 50 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a loaded handgun and possession of hollow point ammunition.

Goodson’s bail was set at $50,000.

So far, the Jets haven’t said much, while they gather information.

Parked in the middle of an Intersate Highway!

I am suprised that they weren’t killed by another car or truck!

I know that area well. Winding road with a blind side. That area has a long history for car crashes.

If you are talking about the pot, I agree. If you are talking about parking in the middle of one the busiest interstates in the country in the middle of the night drunk with illegal guns in the car, I think I would rather that stay illegal.

In New Jersey, 50 grams is the threshold before the possession becomes more serious:

“In accordance with section a(4) of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10, it is a disorderly persons offense to possess less than 50 grams of marijuana.”

I find it humorous that everyone instantly bashes on the Raiders for this. Any damn excuse at all…

The funniest part is, we have been pretty clean the last few decades on current roster legal behavior. No murderers (Ray Lewis) no drug dealers (Michael Irvin) no rapists (Pittsburgh QB, half the MN linemen) etc., and the two guys who came from our camp that have recently been brought up on criminal charges are FORMER players. Hence, they were kicked to the curb for being stupid, and someone else’s GM wasn’t smart enough to figure that out.

Maybe stop trying to blame the Raiders and start blaming the moron players we fired.

  33. raideralex99 says: May 17, 2013 3:18 PM

I have a relative in that town. I-80 has a broad grass area between east and west lanes. The State Police and local heat park there to nail speeders (and low flying Jets apparently). Further west there is only a concrete barrier between the lanes. My kin live less than a mile from the hospital he was probably taken to.

Yeah, they have a real RICO thing going on over there. Using a database compiled by utsandiego.com,
these are the numbers for total arrests since 2000:

    Oakland Raiders – 19
    San Diego Chargers – 25

    BRILLIANT STATEMENT.

    Short-Term Effects
The short-term effects of marijuana include: •Distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch)

    •Problems with memory and learning

    •Loss of coordination

    •Trouble with thinking and problem-solving

•Increased heart rate, reduced blood pressure

Just for the record, Goodson had best thank his better angels he wasn’t in New York State, and busted with a loaded handgun. Had he been, he might very well have joined the Plaxico Burress Society of Football Losers and been given a suite at a fine correctional facility for an extended stay. I don’t know if New Jersey has similar gun laws on the books.

Interesting point of view, but in that case you should be for banning alcohol, most prescription drugs, most over the counter drugs, cell phones, radios, kids in the car and anything else that may distract a driver and kill someones mother and father. Well, for that matter too, cigarettes, as I have seen plenty of smokers panic after dropping a cigarette or when they drop ash on themselves. Oh, and lets not forget about eating while driving. And I would gladly take the short term effects of marijuana (an all natural substance, grown from the grown, that really needs no extra steps to produce) versus grain alcohol which has to go through a tremendous process to even be made. Not to mention, I’ve seen a lot of the long term effects of alcohol. I’ve also never seen a person high on weed beat the hell out of anyone around them, but as a bartender, I broke up plenty of fights with stupid drunk people.

Now they’re telling us smoking weed will also help fend off diabetes

The magical weed that helps us stay trim, be less crazy, control seizures, cure Crohn’s, rescue the economy and make watching TV game shows more enjoyable is now being credited for possibly reducing the risk of diabetes, too. Analyzing statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey,” researchers uncovered the good news that current marijuana users had 16 percent lower fasting insulin levels and 17 percent lower levels of insulin resistance than their nonstoner friends. Bonus: Scientists found that pot users also had slimmer waistlines and higher levels of “good” cholesterol. [Source]

  50. seaeagle707 says: May 17, 2013 4:39 PM

demolition510- Well its like this. In their early years the Raiders were known for being dirty players (Ben Davidson ring any bells for you?), and during most of the Davis years, large segments of the fan base would show up at games looking like extras from some lurid, Hollywood ‘B’ motorcycle gang movies. Then there was ol’ Al himself, hardly a poster boy for the Rotary Club.

Now its true that every team has its share of miscreants, but no other team went out of its way to cultivate that image of “bad boys”, like the Raiders. Even the colors Al chose, have a very negative connotation about them, being also used by some notorious political regimes of the past.

The Raiders and their fans can’t complain now that they’re getting a bum rap about being a haven for the violent and criminally motivated, after so many years of deliberately trying to project that image to the rest of us.

Here we go. The same old argument that because alcohol, etc. is legal, then why shouldn’t marijuana be legal. The reality is that alcohol, cigarettes, cell phones, etc. are legal – and that’s not likely to change anytime soon. So why do you want to add one more potential problem (marijuana) to the mix? The lessons learned from your other examples should answer why you don’t want to add more gasoline to the fire.

Ugh. Is this from the D.A.R.E. handbook? There are countless people who use marijuana and perform physical activities, some on a world class level in their respective sports. Many claim using marijuana before practice helps relax and calm the user allowing them to focus on a greater level than normal.

I’m not arguing that you should be allowed to drink and drive, or smoke pot and drive. You shouldn’t. However, this list of effects here provides mostly untrue or exaggerated claims.

WOW!!! It’s disgusting how fast people will defend a dope smoking loser under the pretense that “it should be legal” – yet nobody mentions that’s hollow point bullets are illegal in N.J.???????

Hollow point bullets are safer and more effective when used in a handgun then FMJ (that stand for full metal jackets – for all you Obama loving east coast fairies). Hollow points have more stopping power, and don’t travel through multiple walls. Making them ideal for home defense….. but I guess America has truly declined when more people stand up for smoking illegal drugs than the 2nd amendment.

March 9, 2002. My friend was high, as was her driver. Both are dead after plowing into a car on the way to spring break. Thankfully they are the only two seriously hurt in the accident.

I don’t necessarily oppose legalizing it, but there’s not a method as simple as a breath test to determine if a driver is high. A drug test will come back positive long after the effects of pot have worn off. If they can solve the driving high problem ill back legalizing it 100%. As it is now I’ve never really heard of any good solution for legally declaring a person high.

The weed is not the issue. Even though I do not smoke, I do not care if it is legalized, as long as there is a means of administering a field sobriety test for weed. If it is illegal to drink and drive, it should be illegal to be baked and drive, correct? The gun loaded with hollowpoint ammo is the real issue. WTF is all I have to say about that. There is no legal reason to have a loaded handgun in a vehicle. Good buy to your career, you idiot, assuming that it was your weapon.

  75. Walk says: May 19, 2013 2:25 AM

The gun charge is the most interesting charge. That law against hollowpoint was put into effect because the legislators thought that was the type of ammo used to penetrate body armor. The reason I think it is the most interesting is that it has ramifications beyond just this case.

What about a Chart like Drinking… if you are 6′ and weight 200 lbs… you must wait 1 hour before you can drive after 2 bong hits?

Not sure if you can have a decent guide like that, im sure like alcohol it effects people different. but they have the BAC chart.

like everything else…Guns / Alcohol etc etc People need to be more responsible, and not so Stupid!! eaiser said than DONE!!!

DUI for normal people that are afraid of their Car being Towed, getting a ticket or broken into, or just BAD Judgement is a little more understandable then NFL Players getting DUIs Dont they have “Friends” that could drive? Limos? Taxi? NFL Car service? Bodyguards?

Should we start an NFL Player Babysitting Service?

Anyways back to Pot… like everything else be responsible!!
