Redskins sign second-rounder Amerson

David Amerson, Bacarri Rambo AP

The Redskins drafted several defensive backs who should make a quick impact. And they’re signing them quickly as well.

The team just tweeted out a photo of second-round cornerback David Amerson signing his rookie deal.

That leaves just third-round tight end Jordan Reed as their only unsigned pick.

Amerson’s a physically gifted player, whose game tape didn’t always match his talent. He intercepted 13 passes as a junior at N.C. State, but that number dropped to five and the big plays allowed rose dramatically.

If the Redskins can teach him to play consistently, instead of always going for highlight plays, they may have found something.

Shhh! Please don’t tell John Mara we still had enough money to sign our draft picks. If he finds out about this, he’ll yell at Roger Goodell for not shrinking our salary cap enough.

It’s amazing that people who charge John Mara with “stealing” cap space from the Redskins fail to realize one thing…the biggest thorn in the side over the past decade for the Giants has been the Eagles. I think if John Mara was going to “steal” cap space from anyone, it would have been from the team he deemed the biggest threat to the division. Before last year, when was the last time anyone worried about Washington winning the division?

I admit even I think the Mara jokes are getting old, but how sweet would it be to go and win the next Super Bowl at his house. Hail!

In all seriousness, after we get our cap restored and either sweep you guys or knock you out of the playoffs for a couple more years in a row, I think we’ll be able to put the Mara jokes to rest.

How is the “Mara thing” old material? It’s a two year cap penalty. You’ll hear his name until this thing is over and even after. The effects will linger in Washington and Dallas beyond these two years and Mara’s name will continue to be mentioned as the puller of Goodell’s strings until we’re ready to stop. Get used to it. Still crying about that cap space eh? You skin fans seem to forget that 29 other owners voted for it as well. Quit whining, enjoy your East championship and hope your Qb stays healthy. If he does your team will be dangerous, for a change..

As Mara was going into last years owners meetings he told reporters that The Redskins and Cowboys were lucky that draft picks weren’t taken away.

Now all we need is R. Gizzy back to run the show. Hopefully we now have great depth. Cousins is decent, but he is no R. Gizzy. And yes, he will Giz all over the Blue Girlie-men, Green crows, and CowBeotches.

Signing their picks so early is unusual for Shanahan. He normally waits till the week or even day of the start of training camp to sign everyone suddenly. It was rare that he signed a pick before July. Before June is really unusual. Maybe he is mellowing with age and allowing others to handle some things. He’s always prepared, but I hate to think what he will do this year with this much time to focus on football. ‘Skins fans should expect great things this year.

Because Philly would have looked too fishy. Though the Eagles did dump the salaries of two players into 2010, just like the Cowboys and Redskins, they only overspent the imaginary “cap” by 8m. Washington and Dallas overspent the nonexistent cap by 55m and 44m, respectively.

Interesting sidenote- NYG overspent Mara’s “spirit of the cap” by 5m and dumped the salaries of Brandon Jacobs and Justin Tuck into 2010. That’s another reason Mara couldn’t take action against Philadelphia, they had only overspent New York by 3m.
