Maysonet got caught up in Philly numbers game

So what happened with Eagles running back Miguel Maysonet in Philadelphia?  Per a source with direct knowledge of the situation, Maysonet found himself on the wrong side of a numbers game.

The recent addition of veteran tailback Felix Jones resulted in Maysonet sliding, in the team’s view, to the sixth spot on the depth chart.  And so the decision was made to move on.

Despite speculation in some circles that the five-figure signing bonus paid to Maysonet and his abrupt departure after one week of OTA practices speaks to a disconnect between coaching staff and front office, keep in mind that undrafted rookies routinely get sizable signing bonuses — and then routinely get cut.

This year, for example, the Giants gave receiver Marcus Davis a $15,000 signing bonus, and they already have released him.

The balance of Maysonet’s rookie deal will now be subject to the waiver system, given that the Eagles officially have released the former Stony Brook standout, replacing him with undrafted rookie tight end Will Shaw.  The teams to watch will be any teams the Eagles outbid to get Maysonet, since those teams can now get him with no signing bonus at all.

$10,000 is not even pocket change to an NFL team. What do you think it costs, for example, to buy everyone on the 53 man roster throwback helmets/unis for one game?

Could be the best thing for the kid. Give him a better chance at playing time somewhere else.

Okay let me get this straight, he got caught up in a numbers game so they release him and then go out and sign the 7th yes 7th TE on the roster. So I guess Chip Kelly’s offense will have a bunch of 1 back 4 Te sets?

I’d rather take a shot with this kid than Felix Jones.

Wait, so they release him because he was the sixth runningback…and they replace him with their 20th tight end?

    “Despite speculation”

Umm you really mean to apologize for being a hysterical wanna-be troublemaker who got busted for, yet again, for being stupid.

The TE they signed is expected to also play OLB as is TE Clay Harbor.

One cut and go RB. Texans should take a look at him. Outside of Foster and Tate, we have a bunch of un drafted rookies and rejects. I was hoping Texans would draft him last month.

If Chip Kelly is counting on Felix “hot tub” Jones to remain healthy next season, then he will be wishing he had Maysonet back.

Felix “hot tub” Jones will be our 3rd RB and will only get a small amount of snaps assuming that Shady and Bryce don’t get injured. I doubt he will be injured if he isn’t getting that many snaps. Either way, it wouldn’t affect our team much if he did. Nothing but good can be had for having Jones as our 3rd RB. Deepest in the league.

This is a total disconnect between the GM and the head coach. Stony Brook’s graduation only occurred this past weekend, so the kid never even got a chance to show his skills.

This kid is legit and will be in the NFL, even if it takes some time a la Danny Woodhead.

They already have too many injury-prone RB’s or what?
