Lawyer: Goodson to plead not guilty, gun wasn’t his

The lawyer representing Jets running back Mike Goodson said his client would plead not guilty to the five gun and drug charges against him.

And according to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News, Goodson told the Jets that the gun in the car wasn’t his.

“Mike’s charged with possession of that gun, but we’re confident we’re going to be able to show (the gun wasn’t his),” attorney Tony Fusco said.

Both Goodson’s lawyer and the lawyer for the driver of the vehicle Goodson was in said that their clients could escape jail time, because a second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun would be hard to make stick.

Joe Afflito, the attorney for Garant Evans (the driver of the car), said the second degree charge requires “proof that you had a weapon and that you were going to use it to harm a person or property.”

“This gun was found in the car so I don’t know where that comes from,” Afflito said. “According to the newspaper reports, they were picked up on the side of the highway unconscious.”

A third-degree charge comes with a suggested sentence involving jail time, but that’s not a certainty.

While avoiding prison can only be considered a positive, Goodson’s far from in the clear. The Jets haven’t said much about his situation, and are wise to wait to find out more.

McKnight said you would have to kill him for his roster spot. Obviously, Goodson took him a little to seriously.

^ McKnight should breathe a sigh of relief.

Thought the story was garbage to begin with and now that more info is available it’s pretty clear most of the charges won’t stick. The pot on the other hand is gonna be tough to shake. Too bad it wasn’t in Washington or Colorado the best states in the Union.

I don’t think any of you guys understand.

This wasn’t his paraphernalia, you can crack all the NY Jets jokes you wan’t but this is probably the biggest crime this organization has had.

But anyway, he was a passenger in someone else s car, and all the stuff was in the guys trunk. Do any of you look in your friends trunk while you ride with them? I didn’t think so. Plus do any of you call your friends saying “Hey i’m sick can you bring me to the hospital, you need to hold my guns and weed tho” Mike Goodson will most likely be acquitted and all the dumb raiders fans who are trying to take shots at the Jets will go back from where they came from.

The cellar of the AFC West.

Every report I saw said the vehicle was stopped cold in the left-center lane (I-80 is 4 lanes in that spot with a 65 mph speed limit)… big difference from “the side of the road.” Everyone who has lived in that area for more than 10 years remembers the 2001 multi-truck crash in that very same location under somewhat similar circumstances – one tractor-trailer was stopped in a travel lane in the pre-dawn hour when its trailer brakes locked, a tanker swerved and overturned trying to miss it, then a 3rd truck slammed into the mess. The resulting explosion and fire melted the bridge they were on at the point of impact. Goodson and Evans are lucky they’re alive to plead not guilty.

How come the “It wasn’t mine” defense only works for people with deep pockets?

“Those aren’t my fingerprints on the gun and bullet casings that I didn’t load”
    Use the Chewbacca defense.

“Unconstitutional” gun laws are not “Constitutional”. Just saying.

……….and all the dumb raiders fans who are trying to take shots at the Jets will go back from where they came from.

Don’t you love when Steeler fans (“The Way We Were”), and Raider fans come here cracking on the Jets?

I can imagine what the other teams the trolls root for. Packer fans are too classy to troll.

Watch the Jets with just a QB who can manage a game surprise all you “Big Bang Theory” types.

Hopefully goodsons file’s some motions for a continuous. the jets are counting on
goodsons to be a major part of their offensive backfield.

This man has to go I understand he can be explosive but that’s a lot of different things he was holding and charged with. Even if he is found innocent he’s still guilty of poor judgement which is inexcusable

Man, you have to be really messed up to pass out on the side of the highway in a car!

So this morning I read an article on PFT ripping the jets for their lack candor, but now the jets are wise for staying quiet? Make up your mind guys.

Fact: If you’re riding in the car and get found with any type of illegal ‘contraband’, EVERYBODY in the car gets charged! Hence why my family told me early on to beware riding in cars that can potentially be stolen.
