Packers rookie J.C. Tretter suffers broken ankle

Green Bay Packers Mini Camp Getty Images

Any practices happening this time of year are non-contact.

But that doesn’t mean they’re safe.

According to Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com, Packers offensive lineman J.C. Tretter suffered a broken ankle, and is expected to miss six months.

Tretter apparently suffered the injury during a fumble recovery drill during OTAs Monday.

Tretter, a fourth-round pick from Cornell, was working at right tackle for a group looking for answers on that side of the line.

Bust. Just like every other packer draft pick.

That hurts. He probably would have been a starter.

Lovely. Great to see that GB is finally free of the injury bug. This kid would’ve made the roster without question.

  5. tokyosandblaster says: May 21, 2013 4:37 PM

That sucks. But he would have just been depth at an already stacked position.

How is every Packers draft pick a bust? Over the past 6 years I would put them in the top 5 for best drafting teams in NFL. Superstar QB, OLB and solid players at many other positions.

Not a good start… The Packers were able to overcome some very serious injuries over the past 3 years.. but it clearly caught up to them last year. OL and DL and two areas that need to stay healthier this year for the Packers.

  14. jhein23 says: May 21, 2013 5:11 PM

And if every Packers pick is a bust why do they have a 66-30 record over the past 6 seasons, with a SB win?

  15. GenXJay says: May 21, 2013 5:28 PM

This should put a big dent in any cheesehead comments on how great their 2013 draft was for awhile.

Tokyo is right! There is absolutely no difference between the starters and backups on that o-line. Stacked! With guys who couldn’t start for 31 other NFL teams. Stacked!

  20. zzr600guy says: May 21, 2013 6:02 PM

Great, this guy was supposed to be the backup center. Now GB is gonna have him on PUP or IR. Might have to sign a vetern backup center unless Thompson thinks Barclay or Lang can play center too.

Green Bay QB’s drafted in the last 6 years:

    2012 – BJ Coleman
    2011 – none
    2010 – none
    2009 – none
2008 – Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm
    2007 – none

I guess your standards for “Superstar” QB are different than most Packer fans I’ve met…

Look at the number of draft picks the Packers have had and the number of high picks that haven’t really panned out.

1st rounder Justin Harrel in ’07, 2nd rounder Brian Brohm in ’08, in ’09 you did pretty well with a pair of 1st rounders, #1 Brian Bulaga and #2 Casey Neal haven’t done all that well in the ’10 draft, the ’11 draft #1 was Derrick Sherrod who has barely played and #2 was Alex Green who inspired so much faith in his abilities the Packers drafter 2 RB’s this season and then the ’12 draft had #1 Jerel Worthy who only had 11 tackles and 3 assists for the season…

That’s quite a few high draft picks that through poor drafting or bad luck haven’t produced on the field.

  23. filthymcnasty1 says: May 21, 2013 6:25 PM

It’s just funny to watch folks like Tokyo try and say that the Packers are “stacked” on the Oline – when the Packer Oline is at least partially responsible for Rodgers having been sacked more than any other QB in the NFL last year.

The Packers used 2 of their first 4 picks to hopefully improve the Oline this season.

Instead of being critical, we Packer fans should show them pity. Think about it- as a Viking fan what do you really have to look forward to? Another year with cobwebs in the trophy case? Watching your neighbor to the east winning championships while you have none? A second half century of futility? When your team is only known for the Love Boat, the Whizzinator, 4 Superbowl blowouts, missing your turn on draft day, all you have left is attempting to make yourself feel better about your own pathetic excuse for a team by criticizing one you are jealous of. I keep forgetting-they have all of those Division Championships.

If your team would have dominated the Vikings in December, you would have had a first round bye and played at home in week 2 of the playoffs.

You didn’t dominate – so you had to go on the road and get punked for the second time of the season by the 49ers. At least it was on the road this time – instead of the season opening loss to the 49ers at Lambeau.

Which is why you should have been trying to get a rematch at Lambeau in January by actually beating the Vikings on December 3oth.

    So much for “domination”….

I was at the game – thanks for the victory!!!

its not the end of the world but it happened to the worst position for the packers. they have maybe one player on that O-line that resembles nfl talent.

I have never seen a fan base more obsessed with a division rival than the Vikings fans are over the Packers. And it’s been this way for years. So much jealousy. And they were complete mutes for like 4 months after the Packers won the SB a couple years ago. They had absolutely nothing to say, just crying.

this has gone on for decades. Just ask Tokyo. That moldy cheddar troll speaks as if he shook Curly’s hand back in the good ol’ days.
There is no jealously. It’s more of pure disgust in the same division.
Do you think if the Bucs were in the Superbowl, the majority of NFC North fans would be rooting for those butt-pirates to win?

  39. gtodriver says: May 21, 2013 9:23 PM

    @jhein

No one is obsessed with the Packers other than some of their fans – like you for instance.

It’s a game. I enjoyed playing it back in the day and I enjoy watching it now.

I used to cheer for the Packers, when they weren’t playing the Vikings. Then I moved to WI and met some Packer fans like you.

Now it’s real hard to cheer for the Pack- even when it would help my team.

There are many great Packer fans. But the fans like you give all Packer fans a bad rap.

You are right about some of the upper talent not panning out as smoothly as people expect. Injuries do occur, but he drafts for scheme as good as anyone.

TT wins more drafts than he loses. sometimes players get injured sometimes players lack focus like Finley, but for each of them there is a James Jones, Jordy Nelson. along with undrafted players that can make a difference whether its short term like Bigby and Grant in 07 or longer term such as Shields and Williams the chance to.

He is one of the best, and every reasonable football fan notices it.

————————————————————————————————————————————————– yeah the pack is not stacked on the o-line that is for sure, tokyo might have had a few beer’s when he posted that. but they say this should only keep him out up to 6 month’s. that bring’s him back in mid oct. so if at worst he get’s a year of back up we’ll see. barclay played ok on the right side for a while last season. and sherrod might be back this year for an opportunity. as long as newhouse isn’t playing we should be ok. he is way to inconsistent.

Once again the viking fans flock to a Packer article with the false bravado trying to make themselves relevant. The way to get recognized is if your team wins not by whining how tough you are. Once you do that you will be noticed until then you will be in our shadow.

I am not an obsessed fan just annoyed with the stupid comments and I played football too hs and college I know its just a game.

And you go through the drafts over the past 6 years and cherry pick all the bad picks – don’t mention that Clay Matthews was in the same 1st round as Raji. Don’t mention Greg Jennings, Nick Collins, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, James Jones, Casey Heyward, Josh Sitton, Morgan Burnett all players that would start for your sorry franchise – in fact 1 already is Jennings. And go back and look at Ron Wolf’s drafts how many great 1st round picks? Less than Thompson that’s for sure.

  50. axespray says: May 22, 2013 1:14 PM

Remember when the bucs won 10 games in 2010, or when the lions won 10 games in 2011…

    What happened afterward?
And those teams had QBs worth respecting.
