The Ravens, one of the first teams to begin signing draft picks, have struck a deal with another rookie, announcing the signing of outside linebacker John Simon on Tuesday.

Simon (6-2, 260) earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior at Ohio State in 2012, recording nine sacks. The Ravens selected him toward the end of the fourth round (No. 129 overall).

Simon, who was a defensive end in college, is likely to be a backup in his first NFL season at outside linebacker.

The Ravens have now agreed to deals with all seven of their rookies selected on the draft’s final day.

Simon may appear to be slow and small but he is what Ozzie says he is- a football player.

Ravens are getting it done! Seven down, three to go. Hate to be one of those teams that’s only signed two draftees so far. Sad. smh.

This Steeler fan thinks the Ravens got a great football player. Simon is a beast. A potential Woodley-type OLB.

Just like when Kruger was drafted, this guy was instantly compared and contrasted with double J(based off their whiteness lol) but just like Kruger, Simon is not coming in to be the edge setter JJ was but a situational 3rd down pass rusher. Depth wise overall, this is as deep of a roster as I’ve ever seen in Bmore.

He was drafted by the Great Oz, he must be a future HOFer.

weak draft. weak team. weak front office. they try to follow the model organizations blueprint. the steelers. but its a cheap knockoff!

As a Buckeye fan and Bengals fan I must say Simon is a beast. If he is anything like he was at Ohio State, then it’s going to kill me to watch him beast against us! Good luck to you young sir.

As the best professional sports team in the state of Maryland, we are humbled by the embarrassment of riches we have because of the quality of our front office. Should the JV team in landover masquerading as a pro team ever get an owner who doesn’t constantly meddle, perhaps they too could be a consistent playoff team with two SBs since 2000.

I agree with my fellow Steeler brother in here — Simon can ball. Newsome truly is the Wizard of Oz.

Ravens now have OLBs Suggs, Dumervil, Upshaw and Simon. Whoa!

hovadagod – The Ravens have been in the league a long time… they just used to be called the Browns (the newer team plays in Cleveland). Let’s not forget where you came from.

Ravens fans are bizarre. For a great team that just won the Lombardi trophy they have a massive inferiority complex. I’m from DC, and I would say most people around here have a general respect for the Ravens. Ravens fans, however, seem to take personal offense when someone in the DMV area supports the Redskins instead of the Ravens. When a Redskins fan says “I think London Fletcher is a great linebacker,” the Baltimore response is not “I think Ray Lewis is a much better linebacker,” it’s “London Fletcher sucks and doesn’t deserve to wash Lewis’ jock strap”.

Your team is better, they just won a trophy declaring them the best team in the NFL; what more do you need, for the Redskins to get kicked out of the NFL and disband as a franchise? When you rag on inferior teams, it doesn’t make your team better, it just makes you look like a weak and petty individual.

Calling them bizarre is too kind….really don’t know what sportsmanship is. Smh and lol.

Maryland’s number two team is always struggling to catch up to the Redskins. It’s a hopeless exercise for the Ravens.

Tomlin WOULD be the first to tell you that those 6 rings mean nothing and all of his energy in going in to THIS YEAR. which just so happens to be another year the squealers wont make the playoffs

  20. golfongrass311 says: May 21, 2013 4:09 PM

Redskins couldn’t beat the baltimore charm if they were given a 20 point lead

Not sure if you think he’s too small or too big. He’s as tall and 15 pounds heavier than Jarvis Jones, Steelers first round pick in the same position.

Thanks cbass and banker for being classy. Not enough of that on here.

Ah yes another tarot card reader predicting the steelers demise. Another bandwagon Ratbird throat open spewing such sage predictions based on watching the last four ravens games last year….please Tomlin would tell you they mean a lot just loke your two mean a lot so don’t try to play both ways as is the case with most Ratbird trolls.

The first 30 years of the steelers existence they played in 1 playoff game, and lost. Ravens have 2 superbowls in 16 years. crickets.
