Bengals sign second-rounder Margus Hunt

The Bengals are deep enough on the defensive line they could draft a player who might need time to develop. They found that guy in Estonian discus thrower Margus Hunt, who took up football in 2009.

He’s now officially a professional football player, as according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals signed┬átheir second-round pick today.

Hunt’s an interesting prospect, with long arms and a unique ability to block kicks (17 in college, which is a record). And because he’s surrounded by talent up front, he has time to learn more football.

Not that the character was based in Estonia, but I always imagine Margus Hunt acts and talks like Ivan Drago from Rocky.

    The next Justin Smith?

I liked this pick when they made it. He might be inactive a lot this season but it will be fun to see him on special teams if he gets the chance this year. With some time to learn the pro game I think he’ll be a heckuva force.

They have a lot of good DE’s and won’t be able to retain them all. Hopefully he won’t be another Justin Smith, who tanked it here long enough to get out. Smith is a high motor guy with limited ability, hopefully Hunt will have more raw talent.

I love what the Bengals have done this off season.
We have back ups that could start on other teams.
    Its our division this year.

    Go Bengals!

I wanted this guy in GB badly but the dang Bengals snatched him 2 picks before the Pack had a chance to get him.

Oh well hes probably a better fit in a 4-3 anyway.

Big reach for Bengals. He’s 26 years old, how long do you guys think he has to sit and watch? He was above-average against C-USA opponents, terrible at the Senior Bowl. Still, if there’s a team that would be able to get anything out of him, it would be Cincy. Their front four is loaded and they won’t be forced to use Hunt any more than they want to.

Too bad his first name isn’t Mike.
