Ravens sign second-rounder Arthur Brown

Oregon Ducks De'Anthony Thomas scores his second touchdown of the game as he gets past Kansas State Wildcats during the Fiesta Bowl football game in Glendale Reuters

Well, at least now he’ll be able to cover the medical bills.

The Ravens announced that they had signed second-round pick Arthur Brown, a day after coach John Harbaugh mentioned that Brown had sports hernia surgery earlier this month.

Assuming he’s well at the start of training camp, which is reasonable with the timeline of the procedure, Brown figures to start inside, where the Ravens lost a guy named Ray Lewis as well as free agent Dannell Ellerbe.

Brown’s a little undersized, but he was solid value for the Ravens in the second round, and could make an early impact for them once he gets back on the field.

A rookie with a sports hernia starting at ILB. That should work out well.

Hey crown, it’s May. He’s expected to be ready well in time for training camp.

    Use your brai, oh wait…

As a Ravens fan, I wanted Ozzie to draft him @ 32 in the first (because that’s where the Super Bowl Champions draft). The fact that we got him in the 2ND + Matt Elam hahahaha TY Dallas Cowboys ^_^

This guy will be great for years to come, I’m jealous you guys drafted him..and this is coming from a Vikings fan

Hernia’s are very common..but in football it could be a problem. Good luck with minimal strain

crown, interesting comment considering your projected starting OLB and first round pick is undersized, history of spinal stenosis and is still suffering through a hamstring injury. That one is hard to get rid of.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Brown can do. Would love it if he could get the reps during OTA and mini-camp but Ravens have said he’ll be fine way before training camp.

Pouncey & Co. will make this guy look like Foxy Brown.

Jimmy Smith wasn’t so successful recovering from his sports hernia halfway through last season. It took him half a year to recover and only started to be effective in the Super Bowl. Half a year to full recovery puts us in late November early December. The Ravens will need another inside linebacker far sooner than this. Bring home Bart Scott. His bad boy attitude is all Raven. Just one year though that’s all anyone can take.

Arthur Brown has great instincts and a nose for the football. He should do very well for the Ravens.

“& Co.” is right. He’s the only consistent player on that line. Too bad he’ll be too busy with 1/2 of Brandon Williams to worry about Brown.

    Best franchise in the league

I REALLY wanted this guy. As a Vikings fan, I would’ve taken him in the 1st if some of the other big names didn’t drop so far to us. I think he’s going to be awesome.

Pouncey & Co, meet Ngata & Co. “Foxy Brown” will have all the space he needs.

    @raviq10

Every single team passed on both Brown and Elam at least once but you mention the Cowboys how cute. I never seen a 500 team discussed so much.

you’re right, it’ll definitely work better than a rookie starting with spinal stenosis…

He’s got a great shot at Defensive Rookie of the Year.

  19. slickster35 says: May 23, 2013 8:00 PM

I like Brown, but I think he’s undersized.

I won’t be suprised to see him as a converted safety.

it would be nice if the author told us what position he plays. i mean, i can kinda figure it out but i have to wait until the 3rd paragraph and then read between the lines….twice.

This was the same guys the Steelers fans were all clamoring for befroe the draft.
Wathced this kid play a bit in collge. Like his potential. All day motor/work ethic. Great fit for Baltimore.

  22. jtbsteeler says: May 24, 2013 9:17 AM

If you go back and look at the GAMES, Pouncey has been manhandling Ngata lately. The tide has turned on that for the Steelers. Charlie Batch Ginseng’d that defense.

  23. jtbsteeler says: May 24, 2013 9:20 AM

I think I’m more excited about the defense that the Ravens are projected to field than the average Raven fan.

Pouncey and co have to get thru ngata and co 1st to get to Brown. What kind of name is Maurkice anyway? Was he a cross dressing cosmetologist before football?

  25. ppdoc13 says: May 24, 2013 9:52 AM

They said the exact same comment about ray Lewis. He was too small to play ilb at 6’1″ and 240 lbs. not saying brown is the next Ray Lewis , but you can’t measure heart and desire which is why the JV team in Maryland can’t seem to get anything right.

  26. scoobies05 says: May 24, 2013 10:25 AM

keep dreaming about the batch victory jtb..it was the last good thing to happen to the steelers. as far as the defense goes, your pathetic offense couldnt score last year….what makes you think this year will be better with no rb wr or te.

Really? That’s what you came up with? Something tells me you spent all night on that too.

but crown calling arthur “foxy” brown makes him the wit of pitt? well i suppose that makes sense

  29. ravendog92 says: May 24, 2013 12:43 PM

Jtb, Ngata played through injuries all last year, and wasn’t surrounded by much talent on the d-line. This year however, our d-line is our most improved area. Just wait.

  30. ravendog92 says: May 24, 2013 12:49 PM

Also, I’m not sure why you’re so excited about our defense. Suggs and doom are gonna be a nasty force. 3 sacks on thanksgiving, no doubt. There really are no questions on the defensive side, other than #2 corner, where we have plenty capable, just waiting to see who wins the job. I wouldn’t be so excited as a Steelers fan.
