RG3: Knee feels great, my goal is to be out there for training camp

AP

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III said after taking the field at Organized Team Activities that everything is positive with his surgically repaired knee.

“The knee feels great,” Griffin said. “I’m able to do all the stuff out there without any hesitation, so that’s the best part about it. I’m excited about that. It’s all about having that confidence, and if you put the work in you’ll have that confidence when you get back out there on the field. It’s about playing like you were never injured.”

Griffin said he talked to coach Mike Shanahan prior to OTAs and said he wanted to do as much on-field work as he could, and that Shanahan allowed him to join other players who are rehabbing from injuries to do some limited on-field drills. Griffin said he expects to be able to sprint within the next couple of weeks and to cut within a couple weeks after he starts sprinting.

“There’s two phases left, explosive sprinting and cutting. Those are the only two things left. Being at four and a half months out, I am a little bit ahead,” Griffin said. “My goal is to be out there for training camp.”

Griffin hastened to add that he is being smart about not pushing himself so hard that he has any setbacks. But from all indications Griffin will be ready to go before the start of the regular season.

  1. I hate he ended up on the Redskins but I hope he heals well and has a long career. Good head on his shoulders

  2. I bought a knee brace for RGIII on his wedding registry, still waiting on the wedding invite or at least a thank you card? Geeesshhh….

  3. Doesn’t matter what RGIII Does…He will be average QB at best and if he plays in the first game, the Eagles are gonna smoke him and have him running for his life! #FlyEaglesFly

  4. The RG3Urrection continues. When Robert Griffin says he’ll be fine, it’s because he’ll be fine. Don’t you worry about RGIII and RedskinsNation. We will prevail and own this era with many, many Super Bowl Championship banners at FedEx Field. #GodBlesstheREDSKINS

  5. I hope for redskins fans sake shanahan doesn’t treat him as he has his running backs (expendable) or the skins will be giving up another half dozen high draft picks trying to replace him this kid has already had 2 knee procedures.

  6. LOL! I truly love all the haters comments. You can’t help but like the guy I don’t care who you are . I get a kick out of reading all the hate been a while for us skins fans.

  7. I still think it’s hilarious that the Skins playoff trip cost them their QB’s future.

    Sucks to have no luck.

  8. Fantastic press conference, his story about the surgery was deep. Set his “old” password in his phone to the date of the week one game. We are witnessing history people, don’t get left behind.

    All Hail

  9. BRING IN THE TROLLS WHO ROOT FOR A GREAT PERSON’S DEMISE! Can’t wait to come back on here and shove it in the trolls faces when RG3 runs the division again. I am taking notes TROLLS!

The Dallas Cowboys are the number one franchise in all of sports. IRG3 is not a real qb. He has to run to compensate for other things he lacks at qb. #outoftheleaguesoon

Please let’s not mention qbs or even compare. Yours has been in the league 9 years and has one playoff win. On a side note romo is calling his own plays . ……ROFL!

  11. Good for him his goal isn’t winning a SB. It’ll never be done with a running QB.

We’re talking about the same Cowboys, right? The one’s Griffin’s never lost to, right?
    Thanksgiving Day Cowboys?

  13. This kid is too stupid to play football. He seems to think being macho is more important than healing his knee. He would not have torn his ACL if he had been smart enough to sit down rather than play threw an injury. Now he is saying the same things about pushing his luck in training camp.

  14. This is why the owners, NFLPA, and fans don’t really want HGH testing. All these guys coming back so fast from major injury/surgery is good for the game.

One hit … one crunch … gone for the season.”

Describes the risk that every single player in the NFL faces every play, every game. Thanks genius.

  16. If he used HGH, who cares? I think it’s better for the game to get these kinds of guys back quickly and healthier if a little shot can do it for them. I suspect Peterson used it but I have no problem with that at all. Same with ray and his magic deer antler spray.

That would apply to any player in the league genius. Thanks for the brilliant insight.

  18. Shanahan said, “Hey, he told me he wants to start. Then, I’m going to let him start.”

  19. Wow a bunch of generic HGH and PED comments, HUGE SURPRISE.

I’d guess 99% of rubes commenting have seen used or even seen HGH or a PED, but they are all experts because they read PFT articles.

    #losers

  20. LOL these comments are unreal. Like there is really any question that RG3 is unbelievable and we didnt win the NFC East last year. You guys do know your’e going to get beat again right?! I mean ….I’m being dead serious.

  21. hell other than peytonsneck and 95% of seadderal fans most people are hoping he gets healthy. he truly is a franchise qb and will prove it this season when he breaks 4k passing with under 60 rushes. he says he wants rodgers type running numbers, 50 carries for 300 yards. I’d be down.

    _____________________

Funny Rodney Harrison and others who used HGH are called cheaters, but RGHGH3 uses it and who cares ?

Thats called a double standard and invalidates your opinion.

Furthermore, who cares is the league which has banned its use. Which will suspend him for at least 4 games for a PED violation if he’s caught using it.

Which means Skins fans better hope he doesn’t get caught.

Dang, now logicalvoice is praising RG3’s urrection. Get a grip man, he’s just a football
    player not Dirk Diggler.

  25. Here’s hoping that RG3 heals completely and has a great regular season.

That way when Russell Wilson and the crew eliminate him in the playoffs again Redskin fans won’t have any excuses and they can show some class by finally admitting that the better team won.

    Go SeaHawks!

  26. this is all talk we will see in september.skins have no other hope for there fans then get them thinking he ready to play!!!

  27. Hopefully if all goes well, suh or fairly mess him up for good this year. Yea, im that guy

  28. RGIII’s replacement ACL is noticeably weaker now than it was when it was put in. No matter how great he feels or how hard he works, the ligament itself won’t be near full strength till just about a full year has passed after the surgery.

He has a much higher probability of re-injury now than he will a year from now. It is simply the biochemistry of collagen.

I doubt that the seahags will have enough players to field a team this year,Mara will be running the drug test tomorrow

  30. “It’s about playing like you were never injured.”

Dear Mr. Griffin, uh, playing like that is what got you hurt in the first place. If you can’t evade tacklers, they will crush you again. You straight line, point to point track speed, will get you hurt again.

  31. “adenaguy,” you get 1,000 extra internet points for the Dirk Diggler reference. Congrats, man.

Add that Mara will probably want RG3 tested for HGH and you’ll be right in both cases.

  36. Scott Chandler is running routes and catching passes just 5 months since tearing his ACL according to buffalo bills .com so what’s the big deal

  37. @rgtre10, let’s see here – Young, Elway, Theisman – there’s not an intelligent fan in the world that would list any of those 3 as running QB’s instead of passing QB’s. Could they run…of course, but they were known for their passing no doubt.

  38. If you listen to the haters on here, you would think RG3 played in like 5-6 games last year.He played in 15.For those predicting injury(more like wishing),just about every QB,WR,RB,TE,will be hurt in one way or another next season.Happens to everyone who plays football.

  39. Those of you who are practically praying for this man to be hurt and for his career to be short are, for back of a better term, losers. Love a team or hate a team, it is pretty crappy to make fun of an injury or to think wishfully that a young man’s career ends early. Grow up.

We hated you for many years before RG3. You know back when the redskins were terrible and placed last in the division for years…. Now we still don’t like you because your fans are obnoxious, RG3.. err vick 2.0 is all hype and has an ego the size of Jerry Jones, and the coach is an idiot. Now when you place last again this year we can continue to hate as normal.

  41. “Griffin said he talked to coach Mike Shanahan prior to OTAs and said he wanted to do as much on-field work as he could…”
Sounds like the same conversation they had before the playoff game with Seattle and we all know how that turned out.
    Take it easy III

  42. This young man is a talent and a quality person, who UNDERSTANDS what it means to be both a winner and a role model.
This BEARS fans has nothing but good wishes for him.

This pretty much sums up every haters post on here. This genius says RG3 is “too stupid” because he played “THREW” an injury. Wow! Way to show off that awesome education.

People, I hope you realize that it is hilarious to us Skins fans when you are basically selling your souls in the hopes that Griffin gets re-injured or ends his career. That is pretty pathetic. Hilarious to us. But doesn’t say much about you.

Oh, and the funny little 3rd grade names you come up with. RGKnee. IRG3. That does wonders for your credibility.

    _______________________________

You must not be intelligent Crownheadofthehelmet…RGIII is more like those 3 than like Vick, he’s a passing QB who also can run, and have you ever watched Young play? Or for that matter any of them? Take a little time and watch some Baylor highlights and Redskin highlights you’ll see for yourself.

  45. I’m as big as a cowboys fan as any of them out there and I can honestly say I hope RG3 is healthy and ready to go all season, hell he is fun to watch and I can not wait for them to play the boys again, I’m still salty about the way the last game ended!
    #howboutthemcowboys

  46. would hate to be considered a hater and I like this kid but I am worried because he (shanahan) treats every player as replaceable (expendable) and if hes not careful rg3 will be gone and dan Snyder will need to find a new coach and a new qb

  47. Jerrettrollins beautify put it…

Lets get real here the media wants to blame the Seahawks or call them cheaters, however they are no worse than any other team..

    lets go over the suspensions,
3 were actually Seahawks when the tests took place, Irvin, Guy, and Browner.

Sherman beat it so it doesnt count (you can call him a cheater but the sample was poured into another used cup and therefore he was aquited.)

Barbre’s test was taken before he signed and he never played a down for the team.

Tau tested positive after being signed to the practice squad,

Moffit was not suspended because of the drug because he had a prescription he was suspended because the proper paperwork was not filed by the team doctor.

This is just like anything else the media will only tell one half of the story that makes it an actual story so whiner fans can quit calling us cheaters because the fact of the matter is 3 suspension is the middle of the pack when it comes to the league.

The Hawks are down only 1 situational pass rusher, oh yeah they have the most depth in DE’s in the entire NFL, soo suture according to many they are doomed.

I personally root for RG3 just hard to tolerate Skins fans, especially with the PED issue considering THE REDSKINS ARE THE MOST SUSPENDED TEAM FOR PEDS in the last few years.

That makes every skins fan qualify for special education whoever calls an hawks player a cheater.

  48. Having watched just about all of RG3’s games as a Redskin, I can see why there is confusion about him being a “running” quarterback. The system they put around him with the zone reads and the pistol formation and all of that business is so that he can pass the ball. You have to respect the fact that he has (had?) Olympic speed. So, using him as a run threat allowed an overall bland receiving corp a chance to find open space for RG3 to throw to them. So, they included a seven to ten designed runs/read option plays per game to set a defense up and cover the fact that there weren’t any other play makers on their offense. Many of the other plays ran from the pistol formation were simple play action passes. The runs that were most memorable, including the two injuries, were NOT designed runs. His receivers simply couldn’t get open and he tried to make something happen.

Do not doubt that the kid can spin it. He has (had?) excellent velocity, accuracy, and placement. He has (had?) one of the faster releases in the league.

He reminds me of a younger Elway, who had a cannon but would leg it when things went wrong as opposed to a Mike Vick who would run for it because he couldn’t figure out a progression.
