The Steelers have signed sixth-round pick Justin Brown, the club announced Thursday. Pittsburgh now has five draft choices under contract.

A wide receiver who finished his collegiate career at Oklahoma, Brown (6-3, 209) hauled in 73 passes for 879 yards and five touchdowns in 2012 for the Sooners. He played his first three college seasons for Penn State.

After the selection of Brown, Steelers wide receivers coach Richard Mann said the receiver’s size and blocking ability were assets.

“(He’s) a guy that is primed for the strong side,” Mann said, according to the club. “He is a big guy who can lock up on the safeties and dig them out when it’s colder up here and we have to run it. He’s a guy we can put in and help with our running game.”

Brown is the third-tallest wide receiver currently on the Steelers’ roster; only 6-foot-5 Plaxico Burress and Derek Moye are taller.

The steelers are going to get “taken to the bathroom” this year.

    What goes around comes around.

Adds nice depth to the WR. corps. I have a feeling the only way he catches any balls from big ben is if he does a few jaeger bombs, puts on a DTF button, and wears a blonde wig. Should be interesting in the AFC North this year.

First off where is the raven troll who said the steelers were broke and couldn’t sign their draftees? And the first two posters are still in search of the brain they lost long ago….good luck in your search?

Brown has got good size, exactly what the steelers need. Can’t wait to see what he can do on the field.

Like to see what he has. There should be plenty of opportunities for these WRs. Not a lot of proven depth, it appears.

Sign all the receivers you want, they will make good witnesses when NFL films interviews players for the “The Great Pittsburgh Pocket Collapse Of 2013.”

He has a great deal of size and was a special teams guy in college. A great addition. This offense is going to have lots of weapons in the future. Wheaton Bell and Brown will be exciting to watch.

A WR that has size to be a target in the red zone and the ability to block down field can not be underestimated. Ask Tom Coughlin.

This guy’s a beast. Just ask Kansas State, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M. Hahahaha.

  20. steel2372 says: May 25, 2013 11:23 AM

He will be a beast when he is blocking for rbs on running plays and will be a huge red zone target. He is also excellent on special teams. Can’t ask for much more on a sixth round pick. Excellent draft for the Steelers. The future looks bright for the Steelers
