Vick still thinks he’s the fastest quarterback in the NFL

Arizona Cardinals v Philadelphia Eagles Getty Images

No matter how many young and fast quarterbacks enter the NFL, Michael Vick isn’t prepared to say any are faster than him.

Vick said on the Dan Patrick Show that he still believes that when it comes to running full-speed in the open field, he’s faster than San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick, Washington’s Robert Griffin III or any other NFL quarterback.

“These guys are young and they’re fast and they’re quick, the thing I do have is a very quick get-up,” Vick said. “I really don’t feel like there’s a quarterback in the league who can beat me in a 40-yard dash. If somebody wants to set something up, I’ll be more than glad to accept the challenge. But as of right now I’m going to say me. But Colin Kaepernick is fast and RG3 is fast as well.”

Although Vick is coming off a disappointing season and will turn 33 next month, he may be right: Vick still averaged 5.4 yards a carry for the Eagles in 2012, and he can still beat Eagles running back LeSean McCoy in a footrace. Vick has every reason to be confident in his speed.

He also fumbles faster than any other QB

Better drug test that guy. Hes off his rocker again.

Vick also is the most injury prone QB

  5. hrmlss says: May 24, 2013 11:11 AM

    But Sanchez Buttfumbles faster.

  6. granadafan says: May 24, 2013 11:13 AM

People only care about the 40 yard dash for draft PROSPECTS, not veteran NFL players. Vick should worry more about leading, throwing, and not fumbling.

He also thinks he can read defenses, he doesn’t hold the ball too long, he’s the best QB in the league, blah blah blah……nobody really cares. Vick may be an athlete but he has never been an NFL quality QB and never will be.

  9. JMClarkent says: May 24, 2013 11:13 AM

Pryor should also get an invite.

  10. Brad Smith says: May 24, 2013 11:14 AM

This is my problem with Michael Vick… what he chooses to focus on. How about being recognized as the most efficient QB instead of the fastest – at that point your speed would destroy!

  11. gumbogumbo says: May 24, 2013 11:15 AM

Vick in his prime was faster than Kap or RG3 but the problem is he’s way past his prime.

  12. dynast77 says: May 24, 2013 11:16 AM

They really need to bring the annual QB Challenge back!

  13. philly4lyfe says: May 24, 2013 11:17 AM

he must need to spend a lot more time in the video room then reviewing film. kappernick, rg3 and Wilson are all much faster than him at this point in his career.

  14. cardmagnet says: May 24, 2013 11:18 AM

Fastest to get injured or fumble the ball? Sure is.

  15. johnnyjagfan says: May 24, 2013 11:20 AM

    He is the fastest.

  16. papasbasement says: May 24, 2013 11:20 AM

  17. thirdistheworrd says: May 24, 2013 11:20 AM

I don’ like Vick at all, but I do like sports, and the fact is, he may have some kind of a point– Kaep and the Third are both kind of long-striders, whereas Vick still has that kind of quickness and agility in him. As in– he might be able to beat them in a 20 yard shuttle, but both Griff and Kaepernick would rock him in a flat out hundred.

  18. trojanmaaaan says: May 24, 2013 11:20 AM

I hear he can still lasso and hog tie a pitt bull in just under 6 seconds….it takes him a little longer to properly drown them and give them his herpes, but it’s still a respectable time for an old guy…all things considered.

  19. millerhour says: May 24, 2013 11:21 AM

Pretty sure RGIII is Olympic caliber when it comes to sprinting

  20. ebr362 says: May 24, 2013 11:22 AM

Good for you Mikey, now how about you win something?

  21. hooray4boobies says: May 24, 2013 11:22 AM

Always focusing on how fast he can run or how many rushing yards he can get. That’s one reason why he sucks as a qb.

  22. unlogicalvoicesays says: May 24, 2013 11:22 AM

vick would smoke rg111 with no problem. he has 2 good knees. thats the bottom line. the birds will prove this on mon. sep. 9 2013

  23. champ1118 says: May 24, 2013 11:24 AM

Who cares? How about we see who’s better at reading defenses and throwing accurate passes.

  24. otis52gsh says: May 24, 2013 11:26 AM

Too bad he is and never will be an actual QB.

  25. shogunassasin30 says: May 24, 2013 11:28 AM

Millerhour – RG3 is an Olympic caliber hurdler. INCREDIBLY impressive but we’re not talking 100 meters here. Yes RG3, and Russell Wilson, etc are TWICE the QB Vick is, but please know oh young ones, that a young Vick is one of the fastest men that has ever played this game. Forget Quarterback, he’s one of the fastest players ever. Too bad, that’s all he’s kind of had even though he has an absolute rifle of an arm.

  26. vdogg says: May 24, 2013 11:30 AM

These are the types of things that can replace the lame ass Pro Bowl….The whole thing can be replaced by skills competitions. Use winning the events as a monetary incentive to the players so they’ll participate…I know there is still the risk of injury but the league is full of show offs and they all want to one up each other so why not use that to the leagues advantage for once…

  27. thesteelers says: May 24, 2013 11:32 AM

  28. shogunassasin30 says: May 24, 2013 11:33 AM

Some of you fans are taking his comments WAYYY too seriously as well. “OH YEAH WELL..OH YEAH WELL..lets see who’s most accurate!” Like, chill out losers. You should be figuring out how to buy your mom’s TV back from the pawn shop instead of getting all bent out of shape over innocuous sports related comments.

  29. sanityinsd says: May 24, 2013 11:35 AM

Dan Patrick asked him the question out of left field. Vick tried to deflect the question and was in middle of giving the proper diplomatic answer when Dan cut him off in mid-sentence and said ‘Just say you’re the fastest, Michael.’ Vick took the bait and tried to be playful for the sake of good radio.

    There’s no story here, people.

  34. despenc925 says: May 24, 2013 11:38 AM

  36. skinsrock says: May 24, 2013 11:45 AM

Let’s set it up… RGIII vs Vick… money goes to your favorite charity, get a few sponsors, etc… Summer 2014.

  37. radrntn says: May 24, 2013 11:45 AM

Mike Vick of 2001 one could be, but time takes it toll on bodies. Say what you want about those three but you would need to includeTerrell Pryor on that list. In high school track he was running 4.4. 40’s. At Ohio State he was the fastest on the entire team at 4.3, and he also ran 4.3 on his pro day….Kapernick ran a 4.5 , and RG3 ran a 4.4.

Fact is TP ran just as fast as Vick, and no doubt that a younger TP, would probably beat an older Vick today…might be to close to call, but fun to watch.

    —————————–
Uh, no. Vick was fast for a QB, Griffin was a track All-American as a freshman, and qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials, running the 400-meter hurdles.

  39. ijahru says: May 24, 2013 11:51 AM

He has the fastest time from the field to the doctor’s training table #soft

  40. justintuckrule says: May 24, 2013 11:52 AM

I couldn’t be happier with my qb being the absolute slowest in the league. Leave it to the others to collect 40 time trophies. Mine collects shiny silver footballs.

  41. TheWizard says: May 24, 2013 11:55 AM

He’ll be the fastest to the end of his career compared to those other guys.

    Guaranteed he’ll win that race.

  42. yousuxxors says: May 24, 2013 11:56 AM

I would RGIII would beat him in a 40 yard dash but kap grif Wilson Newton none then have the shake and came juke and agility Vick does.

  43. sportnorcal says: May 24, 2013 12:03 PM

And being the fastest QB in the NFL helps him how?

I would rather have the smartest QB leading my team. There’s plenty of speed in the NFL.

  44. yousuxxors says: May 24, 2013 12:03 PM

Vicks times were better at the 40 than those named and his burst and cutting are better than all of them. Vick agility and moves destroy all of them. to bad he didn’t pit the work in to be a smart qb to which those others did. I think kellys offense will make him excel problem is it might be a little to late. his other teams focused to much on his running or. of enough. to bad the pistol was never tried with him.

  45. baltimoresnativeson says: May 24, 2013 12:06 PM

Vick is definately the fastest QB. He even smoked Shady at practice. And I bet Shady would beat Kap and RGIII in a race.

  46. allascowboys says: May 24, 2013 12:07 PM

Well.. maybe ol’ Roger will get rid of the pro bowl, bring back the skills competition, and integrate a 40 yard dash in it. They could have different brackets for different positions (i.e. QB bracket, RB, WR, etc). The winners of those brackets get a little something, and then they have a final 40 yarder for the championship, and the crown of fastest man in the NFL.

  47. dalcow4 says: May 24, 2013 12:08 PM

    Vick, Kaep, RGIII?

Vick at 20. Vick at 30. Vick at 40,–barely– with Kaep and RG closing fast. Longer than that, Vick would be left in the dust by a large margin.

  48. coltzfan166 says: May 24, 2013 12:09 PM

Possibly. But the slowest ones are Peyton Manning and Tom Brady….

  49. lionfan419 says: May 24, 2013 12:20 PM

this is the exact reason they need toget rid of the pro bowl and do skills competitions and fastest QB and accuracy. so we really know the answer to these things.

  50. mungman69 says: May 24, 2013 12:30 PM

Will he stay healthy, no. Will he fumble, yes.

  51. jbeagles23 says: May 24, 2013 12:50 PM

Vick is the fastest qb in the league. I like Wilson however rg3 and Kaep are going to have short nfl careers once this option goes the way of the qb. Neither will be successful pocket passers

  52. tennesseeoilers says: May 24, 2013 12:51 PM

Vick is correct … until RG3’s knee is at 90%.

  53. baltimoresnativeson says: May 24, 2013 12:57 PM

I would pay money to see Brady and Manning race. Now that would be funny.

  54. ninerfan81 says: May 24, 2013 1:26 PM

If only speed could win you a Super Bowl

  55. fordmandalay says: May 24, 2013 1:35 PM

Someone sign Usain Bolt quick! Apparently speed equals great QB skills.

  56. talkingfan says: May 24, 2013 1:35 PM

That’s good to be the fastest, but what bout the other parts of your game QB

  57. fground says: May 24, 2013 2:01 PM

..reminds me of Chris Johnson saying he could beat Bolt in a race. Or Moss saying he could still run a 4.1 before he signed with SF. These guys are all delusional.

I bet Vick would have trouble cracking 4.5 in the 40 given his age and the pounding he’s taken.

  58. henson58 says: May 24, 2013 2:06 PM

I don’t see anything wrong here with what he said. He did not say I’m a great qb because I’m the quickest, he was asked a question about being the quickest qb and like any man with pride, said yes I am. You can teach speed you have it or you don’t. And it wasn’t that long ago everyone was ooohing and aaahing at his on field play. And I don’t care who you are when your basically playing behind a semi-pro o-line your gonna beat up and make bad decisions because your trying to do too much and compensate for a piss poor line. And I’m not a fan of Vick or the eagles.

  59. sdakota says: May 24, 2013 2:29 PM

well, he recently said chip Kelly, his new coach told him how to hold the ball better… a wow, I could’ve had a v-8, moment. Maybe his new coach told he is the fastest and that is more important than being a good qb

  60. hedleykow says: May 24, 2013 2:58 PM

I still wish Vick would have gone to KC instead of Alex Smith. But, maybe Alex will pan out. You never know.

  61. larrydavid7000 says: May 24, 2013 3:00 PM

I don’t think that Vickie could beat the BK KING in a foot race. My money is on the KING.

  62. whatjusthapped says: May 24, 2013 3:10 PM

Don’t know if he’s the fastest but if he is looking for exclusivity in the NFL, he is only QB that is a convicted felon and dog killa.

The Eagles will never amount to anything with Vick at Qb. The sooner they get rid of him, the better off they will be.

  63. punksinplay says: May 24, 2013 3:33 PM

This is a perfect example of why he’ll never be a winner. He really thinks it matters if he’s the fastest QB in the league? Hello? Eli Manning and Tom Brady couldn’t outrun my grandma and they have 5 Superbowl rings between them.

  67. steves11 says: May 24, 2013 4:23 PM

  68. chi01town says: May 24, 2013 4:42 PM

Vick is 100% right and I think he is still the best moble QB in football.

  75. bigbluefanatic says: May 24, 2013 6:28 PM

  76. mintberrycrunch1 says: May 24, 2013 6:39 PM

  81. skns2thend says: May 25, 2013 3:20 AM

Vick’s off field curricular hurt his career terribly. Not to mention the fact that he was misguided in the coaching of his game. Vick should have been one of the most productive QB’s in NFL history.
Though to sit around like my 6 year old and say “I’m faster than you “is belittling himself. He never was no RGIII ….The intelligence, and passion for the game for vick was/is on sub-zero compared to RGIII.
    HTTR!!!

    2. When’s the last time a fast QB won a Super Bowl? And as fans of the game in the end isn’t that all that matters.
    3. Vick is obviously a lot faster then all the dogs he killed.
    4. Just because the media gives him a pass (I’m sure the nfl has told them never to bring up the dog thing again) don’t forget who this guy truly is…
