Seahawks veterans call meeting over PEDs

Chancellor AP

The Seahawks have had five players suspended for performance-enhancing drugs since 2011.  And the team’s veterans are trying to change that.

“We had a meeting.  The vets, we put a meeting together to talk to the guys about not making the same mistakes over and over,” safety Kam Chancellor told Alex Marvez and Jim Miller of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Most recently, the Seahawks lost defensive end Bruce Irvin for the first four games of the 2013 season.

“We’ve gotta grow up and move past that,” Chancellor added.  “So that’s pretty much the message right now, growing up and not making the same mistakes over and over.”

If that doesn’t work, they can always try what Dwight Schrute did to ensure that he didn’t act like an idiot.

There will be a random drug test following the meeting along with a press conference saying half the team has been suspended for PEDs.

Guys, so how do we beat the system? Don’t know coach but we’ll call a meeting and see if anyone has some ideas. Good job guys!

Leaders in Seattle need to change our image. I’m glad guys are stepping up.

This is only gonna get worse. The Seahawks used up all their Karma points in the now infamous Fail Mary game. It’s payback time.

  13. redpillmindstate says: May 27, 2013 1:58 PM

They got to work out how their all going to tell the same lie about being a “clean” locker room and how they are addressing the problem themselves …… BS…the NFL is uber competitive and PED’s are part of the game and the stakes and the money(albeit mostly ungaraunteed which is problem within itself) are a prize had by the toughest, fastest most physically and mentally reliable men available so no one is safe from being released outside of the very top 5 or 6 guys on any given team….. I believe players should be allowed to use them however… no evidence exist (and their is over 50 years of medical history of PED use) that it is harmful when not abused…PED’s are like anyother drug to be used in moderation to accure the benefit the media and government reports are mostly propaganda and use anecdotal evidence of abusers while ignoring the epidemiological evidence that presents a much different picture than some would like….and I’m a not work out warrior or sympathizer it just is what it is

Speaks volumes that the players had to call a meeting and not Coach Carroll.

Why do these issues seem to follow Pete from college to the NFL?
    Hmmm.

  18. allday38 says: May 27, 2013 2:20 PM

Yes!!! Some of you figured it out. The Seattle defense was only good because of adderall. Brilliant assessment. Maybe we all should take that stuff, then we’d be good enough to play in the NFL also. I mean c’mon, must make you bigger, faster, and stronger, right? Oh, It doesn’t,damn. It just helps turn the effects of a rough drinking night, and keeps you focused, totally cheating. I guess it must be worse than HGH, cause the league doesn’t even bother testing for that stuff.

Some of you guys are hilarious, some, just plain dumb. You guys that think adderall helped Seattle have a great defense, are probably the same idiots that wear screen printed jerseys tucked into your pants at the sports bar, when ever your wife lets you out. Get a clue! Seahawks d is a beast, coming for that title this season!!
    Go Hawks!

  19. granadafan says: May 27, 2013 2:21 PM

I hope they invited Dick Sherman to the meeting. He was caught red handed but got let off on a ridiculous technicality. A leaking sample cup does not equal a contamination for a drug. So it leaked out and into a bag. Unless the bag had Aderall in it, then there’s no other reason the test was positive. The appeal committee needs to learn some science and testing.

  20. johnelwayishorsefaced says: May 27, 2013 2:21 PM

Ok Hags fans as a Lions fan who has taken some shots at your team here about the PED situation I have to say I’m actually starting to feel bad for you. At least now you can begin to see how PFT operates and the sensationalism they use to get page hits.
Its a lot like when a few Lions players got arrested and the next thing you know every fifth post on this site is somehow related to those arrests. Never mind the fact that the Lions actually have the fewest arrests in their division over the course of the past few seasons. The Lions are now nothing but a bunch of lowlifes and criminals because of these few arrests. Now they’re starting to do this to your team with PED’s. They will take any opportunity to publish any garbage, non-news story that relates to the situation just to get clicks.
This is true of almost all media, not just this site. This is the reason I haven’t had cable in 13 years and there’s only a few websites I read. It’s pretty awesome to be able to think for yourself.

  21. showmethemtds says: May 27, 2013 2:23 PM

Wish they recorded it. The part where Sherman stands up and clears his throat to say something against PEDs, only to have the entire room fill with laughter would be priceless to see. Best corner in the league****!

  22. hawkfan50 says: May 27, 2013 2:26 PM

Right , because the Seahawks are the only team in the league with an Aderrall problem or PED issue . None of the braniacs on any of the other teams would ever DREAM of such a thing …

Here’s the only difference between the Hawks and the rest of the players in the NFL ; the Hawks will be hoisting the Lombardi trophy next year while the rest of the league watches on TV . Except the Broncos – who get to watch it live right after they lose the Superbowl to the Hawks .

Haters hate and losers , they just lose . Go look in the mirror at your own team before spouting off . Don’t forget to include all your players who beat their baby-momma’s or owe millions in back child support , or get drunk and drive and kill teammates , or get caught at the airport with a weapon because they’re THAT stupid !

Let us know when a player tests positive for steroids. Not all this other crap. If a player has indigestion on game day and takes Tums… would the Tums be “performance enhancing”… hmm… something the league should look into. Let’s call everything PED’s, it’ll be fun!

  39. Johnny Chingas says: May 27, 2013 3:16 PM

The 49ers became the best team in the division and the league…you never hear about any of their players failing drug tests. Seattle is trying to cheat their way to becoming a better team, in the end they will fail trying to use drugs to compensate for hard work.

  40. bamboozle99 says: May 27, 2013 3:27 PM

What’s with this “not making the same mistakes” rant? What happened to ‘say no to drugs’ ?To me it sounds like they aren’t worried about the use of PEDs as much as they worry about getting caught.

Alright guys what now? They got us, how are we going to win? I mean or qb is smaller than the guys who bring out the water bottles, our rb eats too many skittles that he is now diabetic, our best receiver that we just gave over $11 mil a year to (even though he has never caught over 1k yards in a season) gets headaches when you look at him wrong, and the best part of our team last year, the defense, just got caught with the reason why we were so good…..any ideas? Can’t rely on coach, he is too busy trying to get money to pay off all the loans he took out for the players payroll at USC.

Its funny how the hawk fans out there don’t mind letting everyone know how wrong someone else is but when your team is wrong it’s different right?fact is your players were using P.E.D.’S that the N.F.L. does not approve and that’s the bottom line. it don’t matter who else uses it or who else done it or what B.S. explanation you want to give about what it really is and or does your players were wrong now just admit it then let the healing begin or is being honest to much for you hawk fans to deal with.

It’s great to see the vets step in and take the young ones in hand. Young kids make mistakes, it happens on every team at some point or another. Learning from those mistakes and not repeating them is what matters. At least Bruce Irvin didn’t go out and get trashed at a bar and then slam into someone with his car on the way home. The point is there are far worse things these kids could do, but to hold their feet to the fire for the rest of their lives for those mistakes is not only unreasonable, it’s hypocritical.

If any of these guys has a true need for this med, why not just get an NFL exclusion and go through a doctor?

People need to knock off the idea this is a steroid type PED. Many NFL players take Adderall every day!!!! – with a medical exception.

Adderall is not a PED, even though the NFL classifies it as one. It is now being used as a replacement for cocaine. When finely chopped up it gives a similar result.

If classified as a recreation drug you don’t get into trouble until your 3rd failed test

How do you know that they are not really doing steroids and not adderall ? Most of the Seahawks defense got bigger, faster, and stronger, which they also had allot of players failing drug test for suppose using adderall and not steroids ?They both fall under the same category on your drug test, but you just don’t know if they was really taking adderall or using steroids.

Most of the comments that I’ve read are from fans of teams OUTSIDE the division. I was going to comment about how this is the way the team SHOULD handle it. Get the captains & veterans together and call a players-only meeting. But then I’ve gotta read this vile bs from jealous SeADDERALL fans. Your team IS dirty. They’ve been CAUGHT. Wow…look at all the jealous cry babies.. must be niner fans that know the Seahawks are gonna repeat the ass whipping they gave them the last time they played…GO HAWKS!!!
    ——————————————————–
Once again a typical pathetic Seahawk fan using a regular season win at home as their shining moment of last year. Did you forget how close you were to the NFC championship last year? And what exactly has the Seahawks won in their history? Nothing. Perennial losers who cheat. How pathetic can you get?

  85. doughboy8 says: May 27, 2013 9:09 PM

Winer fans don’t have anything else to do but wine an dine. Lets see wsup in september forget all the talk

  86. txpackfan52 says: May 27, 2013 9:31 PM

Come on, Hawks fans…take a joke. I have been looking at the voting (thumbs up/ thumbs down) and it seems most of the posts that are taking a shot at the ‘Hawks are getting a thumbs down. Lighten up, guys…If you really want to be angry at someone taking a shot at your team for this, be angry at your team. From what I can tell here, its all in fun.

  87. beastmode5150 says: May 27, 2013 11:45 PM

How did carrol cheat? The non answer will keep the non answer success rate at 100%.

We question why athletes take PEDs despite the risks of getting caught, suspended and losing lots of money and fans, but is it possible they have that same mindset? To them, maybe they know full well they will get caught eventually, but the Bonds, A-Rods and Armstrongs of the world just don’t care and simply want to experience that joy of being on top of their game, even if it is just for a moment? If so, at least to me it makes them to appear more human instead of being dumb and naive, thinking they are invinicible and would never be caught. To take any enhancements (when you’re a professional athletic) other than what’s visibly legal to assess is unfaithful to their self , fans team & owners . Now the Seahawks been an unproductive team for some years & boom ! They take the NFL by storm almost over night, & with that question will arise about their immediate change of production with little change of the roster . Not saying with the Seahawks or other teams out there that maybe using not legal enhancements substance most of their edge , but you still have to study’s he game have some type of guidance , talent & understand of what’s needed on the playing field but whom to say Berry Bonds , couldn’t hit those home runs with out a little enhancement . Whatever it maybe Peds in any form unless legalize shouldn’t be use to gain a step up , it’s like poker & you’re peeking at someone’s hand & that’s called cheating . But only when you get caught right ?

    Go Hawks!

What a coincidence, the Seahawks keep getting busted for the same thing.

    Over and over. SMH.

Wow, people are really falling all over each other to make the same joke that’s already been made about 50 times already.

No better than the Saints. This coach is and will always be a cheater type of coach. Look at his time with USC and he has been surrounded by covtroversy since he’s been in the NFL.

    2013 Seachickens = 2011 Eagles

It’s funny that all the haters are from ugly cities whose teams were shellacked by the Seahawks

  95. drstrangehawk says: May 28, 2013 2:21 PM

To commonsensedude…. so you’re referring to the Patriots, the Saints, and, oh, just about everyone else. Caught or not.

Vets to young guys, “DON’T GET CAUGHT!!!”

  97. tobis81 says: May 28, 2013 3:48 PM

IT’S BEYOND HILARIOUS TO SEE ALL tHESE HATING 49ER AND RAM TROLLS TRYING TO MAKE CORNY JOKES IN THIS SEAHAWK THREAD. DO U GUYS KNOW HOW DUMB U LOOK CONSTANTLY USING THE ADDERALL BIT? SINCE MOFFITT HAS AND HAD A PERSCRIPTION THAT’S VOID. SHERMAN WON HIS APPEAL SO THAT’S VOID. BABRE FAILED HIS TEST BEFORE HE WAS EVEN ON THE HAWKS, AND TUI WASN’T EVEN ON THE TEAM. HE HAS BEEN A PLAYER ON AND OFF THE PRACTICE SQUAD. SO IN REALITY IT’S BEEN 3 PLAYERS IN 3 YEARS. THOSE R JUST SUCH CRAZY NUMBERS ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE RAMS HAD 4 DRUG RELATED SUSPENSIONS WITHIN THAT SAME TIME PERIOD. NOW DON’T U TROLLS JUST FEEL STUPID? Hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahaha

  98. tobis81 says: May 28, 2013 3:50 PM

ALL THE HATERS WHO CAN’T GET THEIR FACTS STRAIGHT JUST LOOK LIKE CLOWNS. THEY ARE MAD AND SCARED BECAUSE THEY KNOW WE GOT THE BETTER TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  99. tommyinquincy says: May 28, 2013 4:33 PM

Don’t worry Seahawk fans. This is how all the cry-babies act when they know their team is threatened. Just like the Squealer and Colts fans do when the Pats are curb stomping them. The haters come out in full force.

It is pretty obvious that Seattle is the focal point for some testing, but don’t be surprised if there are other players, from other teams, that have already been caught and are just waiting until they have to announce their suspensions.

None of it will mean anything after you smear the NFC with Seahawk cleats.

  100. tommyinquincy says: May 28, 2013 4:48 PM

LOL @ 49′er fans here trying to rail Seattle fans for Adderall.

Especially when Larry Grant is popped and making excuses rather than just owning up to it like the guilty Seahawk players did.

  101. briank1ne says: May 28, 2013 8:13 PM

What’s funny is that there are just as many comments about the Niners on this thread. Now that’s fear…keep beating your chest seadderal. Niners are still number one in the division. you beat them once out of the last 5 games. I know..it’s your superbowl and all that. But calm down. And take a chill pill. No pun intended.

  102. patches201326 says: May 29, 2013 9:54 AM

I just wish some of you would learn how to spell before attempting to hurl uneducated insults at people. I mean really is it that hard ? Must be that California education system…
