D.J. Hayden had scar tissue removed from abdomen

The Raiders provided a bit more information about the abdominal injury that sent first-round pick D.J. Hayden to the hospital.

Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group reports that Hayden was admitted to the hospital late last week and had a procedure to clear out scar tissue from his abdomen. There’s no update about when he might get out of the hospital, although the Raiders still expect that he’ll be okay to return to the team for training camp.

When Hayden’s trip to the hospital was initially reported, there was no answer about whether or not the abdominal issue was somehow related to the torn inferior vena cava in the heart that Hayden suffered while at the University of Houston. Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times spoke to Hayden’s doctor and reports that the doctor said his understanding is that the current hospitalization is not connected to the heart injury.

We hope that’s the case because Hayden appears to have a bright football future in front of him and it would be a shame for it to be compromised after Hayden already beat the worst possible outcome for an injury that is often fatal.

  1. As a Broncos fan I hate pretty much everything the Raiduhs stand for, but I’m pulling for this kid, after what he’s gone through the past 8 months, I hope his perseverance pays off and he becomes a valuable NFL player….who has 2 bad days a year when they play the Broncos!

  2. This was the dumbest first round pick made. This guy basically had a freak accident injury that 100% of other cases ever seen have resulted in death, and the brain trust in Oakland decides that they’ll use their first round pick, a pick needed to fix a horrible roster, on him.

Teams drop players down the board for turf toe like Eddie Lacy, but not the Raiders, lol. They were convinced somebody else was going to “jump” them for majorly damaged goods.

This guy isn’t used up like Lacy. Good luck in Green bay with that guy. The Raiders brain trust has done a great job rebuilding the roster. The proof will be seen in 2014 and Hayden will be an important piece of the puzzle. Lacy will be 1/2 done with his career by then.
