Broncos exec Matt Russell wants college AD job

Earlier this offseason, the Broncos blocked the Chargers from interviewing director of player personnel Matt Russell for a General Manager job.

Now, he might be headed back to school.

According to the Denver Post, Russell is already a “known candidate” to replace ousted Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn.

Russell played linebacker at Colorado in the mid-1990s, and the lure of the alma mater might be enough to pull him away from a good NFL gig.

Russell is effectively the right hand to Broncos boss John Elway, though there have been some changes. Elway brought in former Browns G.M. Tom Heckert after letting personnel man Keith Kidd go, so there would be some experience in house if Russell got the Buffaloes job.

When blocked from the Chargers job, Russell said he wanted “to be part of something special in the state I love.”

Working at the University he attended would apparently qualify as well.
