Matt Russell not interested in Colorado A.D. job

Buffs

The University of Colorado may want Broncos director of player personnel Matt Russell to become the Buffaloes A.D., but Russell doesn’t want the job.

Contrary to a report from the Denver Post, which cited an unnamed source in support of the notion that Russell is interested in the job, a source with knowledge of Russell’s thinking tells PFT that Russell has no interest in the job.

The Broncos have issued a statement indicating that, indeed, Russell is not interested.

While Russell is very loyal to his alma mater, he has no desire to leave the Broncos. If, as many believe, executive V.P. of football operations John Elway eventually secures full or partial ownership of the franchise, Russell would be the leading candidate to become the team’s General Manager.

Some have suggested that Russell could be nudged out by former Eagles and Browns G.M. Tom Heckert. However, Heckert wasn’t brought in by someone else with a plan to replace Russell with Heckert; Russell hired Heckert, who hired Russell at one point in Philadelphia.

That’s very good news for anyone who hopes to see Russell, a former college and NFL player, get blown up by left tackles during Pro Day workouts.
