Broncos’ receivers say Peyton Manning’s arm is stronger

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was great last year, but his receivers say he can be even better this year.

Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas, Denver’s top two receivers a year ago, both say that they notice that Manning has a stronger arm now than he did last year, as he continues to progress from the neck injury that cost him the entire 2011 season.

“We worked out at Duke in March or April and I definitely felt like he had more zip on the ball,” Decker said. “I think he’s come back stronger. . . . I think some of those throws that he fits in the holes, you feel a little more zip on it and he is getting it to you quicker.”

Thomas said he senses Manning is getting stronger, too, although Thomas added that Manning was already so much better than any other quarterback he had ever played with that anything else is gravy.

“I think he’s gotten a little stronger, but I can’t really say, because it’s my first time playing with a quarterback like Peyton,” Thomas said. “It was fun this past year, because I’d never had balls come at me like that — on time and stuff like that.”

Save Thomas’s quote about never having a pass thrown to him “on time and stuff” and repeat it as needed for anyone who wonders about the continued unemployment of Tim Tebow.

  1. Peyton, strong arm are you kidding me, how many times has he thrown it into the stands. Bring back Tim Tebow he can throw it to the upper deck, now that’s a strong arm.

  2. Tim Tebow was Demaryius Thomas’ quarterback in Pee Wee, High School, and at Georgia Tech? I never knew that… The Tebow references are becoming redundant. I’m sure when Thomas made that comment he wasn’t just talking about Tebow… If he were talking about him at all. I’ll take the latter…

  3. wiat till the weather gets cold then we will see…
going to start out 0-1 !!!!

  4. Let’s not make too much if this. These are OTAs. He’s throwing pretty much for the first time this year. His arm is stronger because it’s rested.

  5. “Save Thomas’s quote about never having a pass thrown to him “on time and stuff” and repeat it as needed for anyone who wonders about the continued unemployment of Tim Tebow.”

    Truest words ever spoken..

  6. “Save Thomas’s quote about never having a pass thrown to him “on time and stuff” and repeat it as needed for anyone who wonders about the continued unemployment of Tim Tebow.”

    Good point!

  7. I’m fairly sure Wes Welker will never go on the record and say which QB he prefers- but has anyone of his caliber ever played for two truly great QBs like Manning and Brady?

    What an experience.

  8. Isn’t this the same Demaryius Thomas who said he was still learning to run routes last offseason? Could that have had anything to do with Tebow having trouble getting him the ball?

  9. Can we cease and desist with the Tebow bashing. I’m not even a fan of Tebow and I’m tired of it.
You might remember he also played with Kyle Orton.

  10. Broncos had better win it all this year. Strong arms are great, but Manning will need to be stronger mentally in the clutch come playoff time.

  11. Thomas made a lot of great catches to get denver in field goal range when Tebow was the QB. All the people with the blind Tebow-love don’t remember it that way. They insist it was Tebow that single-handedly took Denver to the playoffs that year and some even believe that Tebow is a better QB than Manning. I am pretty sure when a WR who has caught passes from both QBs tells us that Manning is the better of the two it kind of settles the arguement. Of course there will still be people who argue that Tebow is better though because hey, he is a great guy. I am interested to read the comments from all the Tebow fanatics on this one. Something tells me they will still be trying to convince us that Tebow is the best QB ever and that it doesn’t matter that thomas has caught passes from both, he just doesn’t understand the game like they and tebow do.

  12. Runningbacks get better over time after knee surgery. There is no reason Manning shouldn’t get stronger with another year of going through rehab. It might not ever get to the way it was but that is with any surgery. These guys have the money to spend on the best trainers and most have the drive to get back to playing at a high level. Each athlete is different and no one can say what will happen. So far Manning who was far from 100% last year didn’t do to bad so I don’t see why he should only play that much better this year. A year healthier an a another year with this new team. Yes he has to stay healthy but so does any player who had major surgery so don’t start on that again. Its acactually a stupid statement. I love when people say he is one hit away from being retired. So is every other player healthy or who has had surgery haha.

  13. That last line was a slur. And besides, Tebow has a lot of potential as an NFL qb … for teams interested in obtaining the 1st overall pick in next years draft.

problem is, Tebow throws it to the upper deck when he’s aiming for the sideline

    Tebows a joke

  15. If winning a bunch of regular season games and going out in the first round was ‘fun’ for D. Thomas, then as long as Peyton is there, He’ll have THE TIME OF HIS LIFE!!!!!

    #inevitablechoke

  16. As for the guy whodat318 hate to tell you pal but Tim tebow never player with Thomas until Denver. Thomas from Georgia tebow from Florida never happened

  17. Well, what do you know…another MegaHead story! That didn’t take long…can’t wait for this guy to be gone.

  18. The last comment in the article about Tebow was unnecessary.

Thomas’ comment was a positive comment on Manning, not a shot at others.

The writer of this article, if he is sure it is a shot at other quarterbacks Thomas has played with, needs to explain why Kyle Orton is still employed in this league. Or did he have no idea that Thomas played with Orton?

  19. The only people that don’t know its a shot at Tebow are the 9000 Tebowmaniacs that that disagree with all 32 NFL football teams and think Tebow can play

The Broncos could win 12-14 games in that crappy division.

They only play 6 games in that division are we talking about over a 2-3 year stretch?

  21. “I’m fairly sure Wes Welker will never go on the record and say which QB he prefers- but has anyone of his caliber ever played for two truly great QBs like Manning and Brady?”

Donald Driver in GB, played with Favre while he was still top notch, and played with Rodgers.

“They only play 6 games in that division are we talking about over a 2-3 year stretch?”

I think they were saying, being in that crappy division, they could win 12-14 games (overall)

  22. Unnecessary comment on Tebow not being able to throw a well-timed ball. Career playoff wins for Peyton Manning in a Broncos uniform: 0 Tim Tebow: 1. Lover or hater why bring him up? Fact is, Tebow accomplished far more as far as impact goes, than Peyton ever has (positive or negative).
