It appears the Saints are having open casting calls for a starting left tackle, and this week, it’s the rookie’s turn.
According to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, third-rounder Terron Armstead was working with the ones in OTAs, indicating a rotation before they pick one.
Last week, former No. 2 overall pick (not that it was a good pick) Jason Smith was in that spot, since habitually injured Charles Brown was on the sidelines working with trainers.
Brown’s back today, but working with the third team.
While Brown has played well at times, he’s a little hard to count on in such an important position.
If Armstead could prove himself dependable, he might be the best option, as his physical skills give him a higher ceiling than the other two. But there are also risks inherent with giving a rookie that kind of responsibility.
And that risk is Drew Brees.
