The Titans signed tight end Delanie Walker to bolster their offense after Jared Cook took off for St. Louis.

Now they just need to get him to the season in one piece. Walker did not participate in the Titans’ practice on Friday after tweaking his knee during Thursday’s session. Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports that the team will reevaluate the knee on Monday if it isn’t feeling better and that reevaluation may include an MRI to rule out any serious injury to the knee.

The Titans have been talking about a big role for Walker in their offense in 2013, bigger even than the role Cook played with the team in recent years. That’s not too much of a stretch since Walker’s blocking is superior to Cook’s and that will likely keep him on the field more often than not. Walker hasn’t always displayed the softest hands, but he should improve on his 21 catches from last season now that he’s not sharing time and targets with Vernon Davis.

The only hitch in those plans would be a serious injury to Walker, something the Titans surely hope that he’s avoided this week.
