Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams has been hospitalized in Pittsburgh after he was stabbed early this morning.

According to a statement released by the team, Adams was the victim of an apparent robbery attempt on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning,” Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said. “We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery.”

No other details about the stabbing have been released. Adams wrote on Twitter that he feels fortunate to have made it out of the incident alive.

“I had an angel lookin out for me! Ill be ok just gotta fight to get back harder then ever,” Adams wrote.

The 23-year-old Adams was the Steelers’ second-round draft pick last year and started six games as a rookie.

  1. First Santonio Holmes beats up women, now this guy is into “stuff” off the field again! Looks like the Steelers better avoid dudes from Ohio State ’cause it just ain’t workin’ for em.

  2. Is Ray Lewis in custody yet?

Kidding aside: I think the number of athletes destroying their own lives make me feel even more sympathy when things like this happen to players through no fault of their own.

I’m not the praying type, but I sincerely hope Adams gets better quickly.

The person must have been on something to attack a 6″7 323 guy seriously!!!

LOL That’s what I was thinking!

  4. All athletes should stay away from South Side. It is a free for all every weekend, and as you can see it is not on the up and up.

Also I live in the South Side… not the most desirable place on Earth.

  5. Makes you wonder about where these athletes hang out? Granted, anyone can be a target of a crime, but you should go out of your way to minimize those chances i.e., kind of people you are with or around, going to clubs, putting yourself around the hip-hop culture. You are rich and famous now. It’s time to put the Lil Wayne CD’s away, it’s time to pull your pants above your ass and it’s time to say bye to the club scene.

  6. Three men were trying to steal his truck which was parked outside his home. Just because he got stabbed doesn’t automatically mean he was fighting outside a bar.

  7. A guy tried to rob me with a knife when I was landscaping in a bad part of Chattanooga. Ran my weed eater up and down the back of his legs for about 2 blocks before I decided he’d had enough. What can I say, I was only a month back from Iraq. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery!

Note to self: Stay away from the south side of Pittsburg.

  9. Browns fan here,

Nothing is funny about him getting stabbed. And get your facts straight people. He was in his house (late) hours into the night while they broke into his home and truck. The guy wasn’t out late doing anything. It’s easy to make fun of players and teams but not when someone gets stabbed for no reason.

    I’m out!

  10. As much as I hate the Steelers, here’s to hoping Adams makes a full recovery and is back on the field as soon as possible.

  11. I never have understood all this talk about God or angels watching over someone who’s just gone through something miserable. If there really was an angel looking out for him, he wouldn’t have been stabbed in the first place.

Or do angels, God, etc., ENJOY letting people go to the brink and then helping them back? If the latter is the case, personally, I’d just as soon they not be around and I’ll take my own chances.

In any events, best wishes to Mr. Adams. I hope he makes a full recovery, plays well, and is able to track down the perpetrators next off-season for some one-on-one, no-weapons “discussion”.

One last thing–If this kind of thing is common in his neighborhood, he may want to consider moving.

  12. Dear Idiots, The guy was stabbed outside of his own home. He doesn’t have a history of drug problems…All he did was smoke some weed in college. Half of the players in the NFL are probably smoking weed at some point to day. Get over yourselves.

    That’s Pittsburgh for ya.

    Hope you are ok Mike.
How could a giants fan say that…..oh that’s right morons are allowed to walk the streets of ny. He would have been killed in NYC.

Maybe if we were provided an accurate article we could respond properly.

  16. I club DJ’d years ago and Friday nights are *always* the worst. More drunks, fights, uproars, busts, stabbings, people upchucking and on and on. Do yourself a favor and just stay home on Friday nights and avoid the alcohol fueled pent up work energy. If you must go out on the weekend, pick Saturday or Sundays.

  17. Attention all morons — Adams was the INNOCENT VICTIM of an attack by three individuals. Your stupid negative comments here only reveal your true idiocy. What’s next? Jokes about domestic violence victims? Choke on rotten eggs, you soul-less wastes of DNA.

  18. south side is area of town which has lots of bars, restaurants where many of people of his age go. it’s a popular place for entertainment but it’s also a place where you leave before closing time. if not, trouble will find you.

  19. I’m a Browns fan but this isn’t a post for humor. Heal quickly and completely Mike. God bless.

  20. No matter where he was, dude didn’t deserve to get stabbed. Best wishes for full recovery ASAP!

Now, recall that this guy literally had to drive to Pittsburgh & beg the Steelers to keep him on their draft board due to prior bad conduct. That being the case, what is he doing living in the party section of town? How does that square with his promise to do everything possible to avoid trouble & prove himself to the team? One can find trouble, or one can have trouble find them. Fact is, if you live someplace known for trouble, your chances of trouble finding you increase dramatically…even if you’re doing nothing wrong.

  21. Seriously. I spent a lot of my 20s in the South Side. You act like its as bad as the Hill District. The South Side is not that bad. Trouble can find you anywhere. And Adams was at home. So please. Everyone just calm down.

  22. I want to see that robber.
“Yo… Giant monster-looking dude, give it up!”

  23. The most disturbing thing about this, aside from the fact that Mike got stabbed, is that these PsOS apparently tried to rob the truck from his house! Seriously? That cannot be tolerated! Three guys rolling up to his crib just saying, “We here. We come to take ur sh!t.”

We’ve been breeding stupid, desperate people for awhile. And times are only becoming more challenging. It’s time for all of America to embrace the principal of protecting yourself and your property and the law to allow it.

They should have all received a bullet. Or had the same one pass through all of them.

  24. Apparently he was attacked by three people trying to steal his truck. Hope he is okay.

  25. Get well soon Mike.
More info for those that want to know:

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police say an offensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers was stabbed twice during an attempted carjacking on the city’s South Side district.
Police said 23-year-old Michael Adams told officers he was standing near his truck shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday when he was confronted by three men, one armed with a knife and one armed with a handgun.
Adams told police the trio tried to carjack him, but he didn’t have his car keys. He said ”the situation escalated” and one man pointed the gun at his face while the other stabbed him twice before all three fled, according to police.
Adams went into a nearby restaurant to seek help and was later taken to UPMC Mercy, where he had surgery for stab wounds to the abdomen and left forearm. Police said he is currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Adams tweeted: ”I had an angel lookin out for me! I’ll be ok just gotta fight to get back harder then ever.”
He was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft and named the team’s outstanding rookie, starting six of the 10 games in which he played.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that one of the attackers dropped his cell phone, which was recovered by the police. That piece of evidence could help identify the genius who thought it was advisable to attempt to rob a 6-foot-7, 323-pound professional athlete.

  26. i was wondering where hines ward was, and what he was doing these days…..

  27. Get well from one buckeye to another and buy or rent a place with a garage for each one of those rides.

  28. Sounds a little fishy to me. Is everyone buying this story?

This looks more like a domestic issue that got out of hand maybe, and he made up this stuff to cover for the little woman after an argument. Good gesture, if true, but sooner or later the truth comes out.

    Hope I am wrong. Seriously.

  29. most of all the pro athletes in pittsburgh live in the north hillspart of the city. much nicer, not as much crime.
