Rivers says he may wear gloves in the opener

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers usually doesn’t have to worry about inclement weather, at least at home games.

But Rivers said Monday he’s considering wearing gloves during the regular season, after some good luck with them last year.

Via Tom Krasovic of U-T San Diego, Rivers said “there’s a good chance” he’ll be wearing gloves when he opens the regular season this year.

During OTAs, he’s gone with and without, and even worn one glove.

“But,” Rivers said, “there’s always that chance they’ll get ripped off and thrown to the sideline. You don’t have to pick one or the other.”

He wore them for the first time in Pittsburgh last year, and led an upset win in wet and cold conditions. Then back East against the Jets two weeks later, another win. He hasn’t thrown an interception in gloved games yet.

“I don”t know if there’s any one guy that necessarily made me want to try it.” Rivers said. “Most notable is (Kurt) Warner, who wore them inside the dome in Arizona. I don’t know if there’s anything to it. It was going to be cold. I tried it out; we did all right.”

Warner’s not the only glove-wearer. Ben Roethlisberger has as well, and Giants backup David Carr used to color-coordinate his to his jersey (OK, maybe that’s a bad example).

But while the weather is an obvious factor, people have wondered if Rivers was concealing injuries before. If he’s taking steps in June to prepare for a gloved September, some skeptics are going to speculate anew.

    Just don’t throw INT’s!

And the interlocking key in Rivers, Warner and Roethlisberger?
    New SD OC Ken Whisenhunt.
So expect the Chargers to go run, run, then pass in third and long with those new gloves with Whiz calling the plays.

I dont care if he wears a Victoria Secrets tongue as long as he throws the football like an actual nfl quarterback

David Carr has a hell of a grip on the clip board.

Wear them, don’t wear them. Whatever. Just win.

Maybe he can use the gloves to throw at someone when he has his patented Phillips Rivers’ tantrum during the season opener

I agree. Nobody cares if he wears gloves or not. Just earn that 100 million and take us to the promise land!

I was going to make a snide comment about David Carr’s gloves during his stay here in Carolina, but Gantt pretty much made it for me in the story’s next to last paragraph.

Other than Madonna’s swollen face from that apparent overdose of Botox the other day, I can’t think of anything a lot uglier than Carr’s colored gloves.

Let’s not publicize this glove stuff too loudly; the last thing we Cat fans need is for Cam to add hand wear to his clothing line and to start modeling them on the field.

Rivers great QB do not use a glove on their throwing arm. Your better than that.

Helping Rivers in Pittsburgh that day was the Steelers’ pathetic offense, which produced just three points in the first half and 13 points through three quarters. The Chargers built a 34-13 lead before Roethlisberger threw two meaningless TD passes in the fourth quarter. It was just another day at the office for the league’s 22nd-ranked scoring offense.

Better wear your glasses too Phil.

Will the gloves help him throw the ball like a real qb, or will they improve his shot put distance?

Him and tebow, the two worst throwing motions in the nfl.

I long for the good old days where the only people that wore gloves were hockey and baseball players. WR now wear mittens even in warm weather. Kickers even wear gloves. Pretty soon QB will be wearing speacially designed gloves the throw a tigher spiral to a WR wearing bushel baskets on their hands.

Philip heard all the other engineers on the Super Bowl Express wear gloves, and since nothing else has worked, he figures he has nothing to lose.

To wear a glove or not to wear a glove, who cares?

    Just move, baby!
