The Buccaneers announced the signing of wide receiver Carlton Mitchell and placekicker Derek Dimke on Tuesday. The club also waived undrafted rookie tight end Evan Landi.
Mitchell, 25, will vie for a reserve role. The Buccaneers have two strong starters in Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams, with Kevin Ogletree and Tiquan Underwood two notable backups.
A sixth-round pick of the Browns in 2010, Mitchell has caught three passes for 31 yards in 16 career regular-season games, all with Cleveland. He was most recently with the Cowboys, who let him go last week.
Dimke, 23, was released by the Jets on May 12. The Buccaneers’ incumbent kicker, Connor Barth, would seem very tough for Dimke to overtake, but if Dimke can stick on the roster throughout the preseason and kick in some summer games, he will have a chance to help his standing with teams looking for help at the position.
Dimke appeared in three preseason games for the Lions in 2012, hitting both field goal and all three extra point attempts.
