Texans left tackle Duane Brown will be on the shelf for a few weeks following surgery that the team is calling minor.

Brown is having surgery this morning for a bone spur in his ankle area, the team announced.

“Duane has a bone spur that’s been bothering him somewhere on his ankle area,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. “And [we] made a decision yesterday to go ahead and shave it, so he’s having that done this morning. It’s a minor procedure. He’s fine. We just wanna make sure it’s something that’s not a problem when we go to camp.”

Although “minor surgery” is typically another way of saying “surgery that someone else is having,” it doesn’t appear that there’s much reason for concern: The Texans are expecting Brown to be healthier for training camp because of the surgery, and as healthy as usual in the regular season.

Brown started all 16 games and was a first-team All-Pro offensive tackle last season. In five seasons since the Texans selected him in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft, he has started every game with the exception of four he missed while serving a suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
