DeMarcus Ware won’t practice at minicamp

DeMarcus Ware is going to have to wait until training camp to practice with the rest of his teammates.

Cowboys doctors haven’t cleared Ware to return to practice yet after the shoulder surgery he had early this offseason. Ware said he didn’t think that he would need to start training camp on the physically unable to perform list, but admitted he’s not healed up enough to take on a full workload when the Cowboys hold their mandatory minicamp next week.

“I feel good. I’m not 100 percent, but I’m good enough to play,” Ware said Thursday, via Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com. “I still got a couple of months to recover and get ready for training camp and I’ll be ready by then.”

After seeing a diminished Ware playing with one arm thanks to shoulder and elbow injuries in the final weeks of the regular season, a training camp return would suit everyone just fine if it means he’ll be back at full strength when he returns to the field. Ware shouldn’t have too much trouble transitioning to his defensive end role in the team’s new 4-3 look, so his health will continue to be the main priority.
