Jets play paintball on last day of OTAs

jetpaintball

Today was the last day of Organized Team Activities for the Jets. But instead of hitting the practice field, they played paintball.

The Jets haven’t explained exactly why they did the paintball excursion, but several players wrote on Twitter that a team-building paintball excursion had replaced the final day of OTAs.

There’s no word on how many Jets participated. OTAs are voluntary, and a paintball outing in place of OTAs would obviously be voluntary, too.

Jets coach Rex Ryan, who has faced criticism at times for creating a circus-like locker room atmosphere, has said that building team unity is an important goal. Perhaps players shooting paintballs at each other is the way to build a team.

Reporters were not invited, meaning we don’t have information about who’s the more accurate shot, Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith.

I sure hope Mike Goodson didnt pick up the wrong bag on his way to this

They’re probably a better paintball team than football team.

  4. johnnycash19 says: Jun 6, 2013 7:12 PM

I’m sorry but if you’re a bad team, you can’t do these things.

If you’re a team like the Pats,Packers, Ravens. etc. You can do this.

Bad teams can’t have fun, they have to work.
    Win=Have Fun
    Lose=More Work.

Nice job by the Jets. A lot of positives coming out of Jets camp lately. With all the cap room & tons of young talent…this team is headed in a great direction

Here comes a bunch of more comments about “this is why the Jets blah, blah, blah.” As if they don’t have mini-camps, training camp, and the whole pre-season to get ready.

That being said though, I wonder if Mike Goodson brought his own gun.

    Media credo;

The Jets did something! Quick! Report it!!

The one time Mark Sanchez can feel good about giving the other team the (paint)ball. Good for him.

This explains Marty Mornhinweg saying Sanchez’s accuracy was sky high…

  13. upperdecker19 says: Jun 6, 2013 7:22 PM

Any truth to the rumor that the entire team turned and shot Sanchez simultaneously? Hopefully in his white jeans.

That was the joke of the day!

  20. tincansailor981 says: Jun 6, 2013 7:32 PM

Sanchez didn’t shoot anyone; his paint balls kept getting intercepted.

  21. upperdecker19 says: Jun 6, 2013 7:32 PM

Hopefully, Cromartie is shooting blanks by now (wink, wink)………

  22. edawg7l says: Jun 6, 2013 7:39 PM

Another opportunity for Sanchez to miss everyone.

  23. sdb0ltz says: Jun 6, 2013 7:39 PM

Hey man… I despise the Jets. But even I have to admit this is pretty cool.

With bad call after bad selection after bad media session after bad pass and all the negative brouhaha the players have to deal with when being a Jet… I’d have to say this is a rare good call on their coaching staffs part.

Yeah you lose out on a day of teaching and learning.. but hey, maybe they needed this to loosen up and refocus. I’d be stoked if I read this about my team.

  24. fearthehoody says: Jun 6, 2013 7:39 PM

Finally tapping into Sanchez’s talents – hitting the other team with the ball

  27. skoobyfl says: Jun 6, 2013 7:51 PM

They need to just shoot purple one’s at Barney, I mean Rex.

  28. thefiesty1 says: Jun 6, 2013 7:52 PM

Might as well, it won’t matter when the season starts. No need to practice.

  29. PriorKnowledge says: Jun 6, 2013 7:52 PM

I think it is a cool idea to play some paintball. You get your exercise in, have some fun and do some team building.

Only clueless fools will criticize this. People who have never run a team before.

  30. justintuckrule says: Jun 6, 2013 8:05 PM

OTAs are sooooooooooooooooo important arent’ they? dumb

  31. bgm9876 says: Jun 6, 2013 8:14 PM

    So many haters commenting today..

  33. bbwasright says: Jun 6, 2013 8:20 PM

I was there when they did it. There was a big old barn on the edge of the arena, and both tried, but failed, to hit the broad side of it…

  34. lrjets says: Jun 6, 2013 8:21 PM

Over the whole course of the season, OTAs, minicamps, to take a few hours to build some cameraderie amongst the team is a valuable endeavor.
Do you think missing football per se for a day, to build some chemistry is not worth it?

You anti-Jets won’t agree, but it matters not, because when the season begins, 50% of you will be on the losing end weekly. so have at it now.

  35. seaeagle707 says: Jun 6, 2013 8:22 PM

It must be pure hell to be a Jets fan.

Team needs, everything. So Rex has ‘em “bonding”.

    Yeeeesh!

    Paintball and oral sex.

  37. spideysdog says: Jun 6, 2013 8:39 PM

any truth to the report Sanchez shot two OL in the butt?

  38. bingobrown12 says: Jun 6, 2013 8:40 PM

Please tell me they went for Ice cream after.

  39. thebigtebowski says: Jun 6, 2013 8:43 PM

I’d just like to say that the joke earlier really was awful. It might have the worst punchline of any joke I have ever heard in my entire life. We are all stupider now for having read it.

  40. commonsensedude says: Jun 6, 2013 8:48 PM

For some reason, I keep imagining the sight of Sanchez repeatedly fumbling away his gun.

  41. sb139422 says: Jun 6, 2013 8:48 PM

the jets sneezed. the jets took a piss. the jets went to the store. you media people are.. wait… i have the perfect analogy… YOU ARE THE AWFUL TWITTER TWEETERS!!!!! you know the ones that tweet about EVERY STINKING LITTLE THING that happens to them? “OMG I JUST SAW A CAT ON MY LAWN!!!”. ya, those guys. thats you, media.

  42. harrisonhits2 says: Jun 6, 2013 9:43 PM

So the new CBA reduced the amount of OTAs and other offseason activities, yet Rex blows one of those limited number of days on paintball.

    LOLercoaster

When Ryan is fired halfway through the season this will be one of the reasons why.

  43. nou04 says: Jun 6, 2013 9:58 PM

Wow. Can’t figure out why the Jets suck so bad. Outside of no talent on offense, little talent on defense, and when what is needed is practice, but instead, Rex takes them to play games? Can you say, #1 draft pick?

  44. getyourownname says: Jun 6, 2013 10:02 PM

This was all a huge misunderstanding. Woody told the FO he wanted them to paint a clear picture to the team what was expected this season, and Rex took it literally.

  45. dvdman123 says: Jun 6, 2013 10:07 PM

They are just practicing for their new careers after this season.

  46. trollingforjustice says: Jun 6, 2013 10:20 PM

This is good training because you can’t lead with the crown of your head in paintball either!

  47. desal2ds says: Jun 6, 2013 10:22 PM

Did Sanchez hit anyone? Goodson was carrying? …Nooooooo

  48. tinbender2000 says: Jun 6, 2013 10:27 PM

Can’t believe only one Sanchez hitting linemen in the butt joke so far, I mean is that a setup or what?

  49. granadafan says: Jun 6, 2013 11:07 PM

The offensive linemen all had paintball bruises on their behinds.

  50. boyshole25 says: Jun 6, 2013 11:16 PM

    Smart

  51. nobreak1269 says: Jun 6, 2013 11:43 PM

Jets are gonna be A LOT better than people think this year. The circus left when Tebow left.Don’t forget-Revis and Holmes were hurt early last year. The Jets were SMART for trading Revis because he WON’T be the same.Get ready for a surprise!

  52. silverhornet says: Jun 6, 2013 11:50 PM

It’s a good thing Tebow is not on the team anymore:

-They’d have to design a special paintball gun for him to hit the target.

-He’d be an easy target Tebowing after he got someone.

  53. rajbais says: Jun 7, 2013 12:20 AM

That’s the closest that they’ll win ugly or hustle all season.

  54. jprcox says: Jun 7, 2013 12:29 AM

Why do people care so much about this? So what these guys had a fun day. The real training camp is around the corner, so that is when they get to business.

I am not a Jets fan, and I personally think Jets will be good this year. Ivory is a beast, and now they do have a QB on staff that can run a more potent offensive scheme. Revis was a loss in talent, but still won’t justify the expenditure of $20m.

  55. CKL says: Jun 7, 2013 2:13 AM

I wonder if some narc will report it as a “contact” practice? I wouldn’t be surprised these days.

  56. coltzfan166 says: Jun 7, 2013 2:33 AM

Most of you are missing the point. This was just a way for Rex Ryan to get his team together to have some fun and bond. The type of unity that they’ve been missing for two years.

  57. polapea says: Jun 7, 2013 6:18 AM

A 6-10 team with no QB and a new OC doesn’t play paintball to build team unity.

What’s next a Mark Snachez / Rex Ryan “trust fall”.

  58. borisbulldog says: Jun 7, 2013 6:34 AM

    6-10 teams love paint ball!

  59. beachsidejames says: Jun 7, 2013 6:49 AM

Well maybe a paintball league or chess league or even a book club would be good for this team since they suck at football.
