For 49ers rookie Vance McDonald, location is everything

Sea gull takes flight with Golden Gate Bridge in the background during sunset in San Francisco Reuters

Vance McDonald would have probably been grateful to have been drafted anywhere.

But his girlfriend is happy he landed with the 49ers.

The tight end from Rice was planning to propose to Kendi Davis anyway, but when he was drafted by the 49ers in the second round, he knew had a perfect setting.

“I was like, ‘What better spot than the bridge?‘ ” McDonald said, via Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.

Yeah, as romantic locations for engagements go, the Golden Gate Bridge probably tops anything he’d have found in Cincinnati or Jacksonville (or anywhere, really).

“Every day we tell each other: ‘This is an unbelievable place,’ ” he said.

He waited until after the draft to see where he’d be spending the next few years. So he planned a sunset visit, popped the question, and got strangers to take their picture on one of the country’s great landmarks — getting his career off to a good start regardless how much he plays this year.

I really wanted the Bills to draft him, and if that was the case, Niagra Falls would have been just as good of a setting

I miss living in the Bay Area. The house we rented had a fantastic view of the Bay, the Bay Bridge, the Golden Bridge, and San Francisco. In certain times of the year, the sun would set right behind the Golden Gate. You can’t beat that view. Best of luck to McDonald in his career and marriage.

I’ll say it to get it out of the way–

I didn’t know guys were allowed to propose to girls in San Francisco.

That said–Well played, Mr. McDonald. Best of luck to you and your future bride.

Just make sure there are no “jumpers” on the bridge when you propose, and also: don’t look up. Damn seagulls.

V.M. Stick with V.D. And you’ll learn something. Block your ass off for C.K. And you’ll be a man someday.

    Go F’n Niners…

Btw, take your gal pal to Tony’s in Marshall for the best BBQ’d oysters.
