Kellen Winslow will get a shot at Jets’ minicamp

It’s been a quiet offseason for free agent tight end Kellen Winslow, who claimed in March that multiple teams were interested in him but hasn’t seen that alleged interest turn into a contract offer. But Winslow has finally found a team that’s at least interested enough to take a look.

Winslow will get a tryout at the Jets’ minicamp next week.

On Twitter, Winslow showed his excitement by tweeting the “J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!” cheer.

A bad knee has plagued Winslow since the infamous motorcycle accident that ended his 2005 season before it began, and the 29-year-old Winslow played in just one regular-season game last season, catching one pass with the Patriots. But the Jets think he has enough left that he’s at least worth a look. We’ll see at the end of minicamp on Thursday whether they also think he’s worth signing to a contract.

his problems were far before the motorcycle. his HS history shows an event that certainly ruined the life of another person. surprised it was swept under the rug the way it was honestly.

kellen fits in perfectly, he will say something stupid and do something stupid. great for the media.

He’s an upgrade over any receiver they have, but Rex Ryan is too delusional to know that.

I love it! Guy’s sat around for a year and realized hes not invincible. He’s perfect for a west coast system and would immediately upgrade our receiving/tight end corps

  12. geniusesq says: Jun 8, 2013 5:08 PM

He’s got talent and they need offense. Worth a look I guess

  13. surfinbird1 says: Jun 8, 2013 5:11 PM

Quite a tweet. I bet it took him a while to make that up.

  14. ryann252013 says: Jun 8, 2013 5:15 PM

I hope he’s humble and doesn’t act like a jack ass for us, if he shows he can’t tone it down this might be his last tryout for an NFL team.

  15. gtskyrider says: Jun 8, 2013 5:15 PM

He is NO Soldier!!!!! He doesn’t even have the heart to be one, I’m so glad he is not a Buccaneer anymore…he was straight garbage!

  16. packerbackernj says: Jun 8, 2013 5:25 PM

Beings that he’s a former soldier it should bring some dicipline to a much needed place! Oh..wait …he isn’t a real soldier? Oh, well, perfect fit for the jets “atmosphere.”

  27. thetooloftools says: Jun 8, 2013 7:00 PM

This guy really could have had it all if he would have stayed off the motorcycle. “Hey… look what I can do” are the dumbest thoughts ever thunk.

  28. granadafan says: Jun 8, 2013 7:11 PM

Who says the Jets are unpatriotic? Way to give an old soldier a chance to continue his career after risking his life for his country……

  29. punksinplay says: Jun 8, 2013 7:30 PM

Yep an overrated malcontent… He’ll fit right in with the Jets.

When The Soldier puts his toes on the line Week 1 against Tampa, Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson will make sure it’s the worst accident of his life. Come to think of it, you could make the argument that his mouth or tattoos are the worst, but I’m going to go with the two crushing safeties.

  32. onbucky96 says: Jun 8, 2013 7:55 PM

Tell me Sgt.Winslow will show up in fatigues. He’s a soldier you know…or just another tool from da U.

  34. clarencewhorley says: Jun 8, 2013 9:02 PM

After one week with the Pats he went to the coaches and demanded the ball more. So they cut him because they determined he wasn’t worth the headache. And he doesn’t practice so you got that too

  35. abninf says: Jun 8, 2013 9:27 PM

Buying a GSXR-750 as his first motorcycle and not wearing proper gear proves he isn’t the smartest individual around.

  36. pshark5 says: Jun 8, 2013 9:39 PM

Ever since the day I heard him call himself a soulja, I wished him a slow painfull ending.

  37. spedman24 says: Jun 8, 2013 10:12 PM

Jets give a kid a tryout…no contract, see if he could put it together…and all the haters run down with their little comments. Funny.

  38. greenmeattruck says: Jun 8, 2013 11:18 PM

The ultra-atheletic, big mouthed K-2 staph infection is coming to the Jets lockeroom.

He and Doughnutsaurus-Rex are a match made in heaven!

  39. trollingforjustice says: Jun 8, 2013 11:19 PM

Wow! the only thing next to due is bring in Ocho and T.O. I hope there is some cap money left over for all the Clown makeup this year!

The only thing more dangerous to a football career than a poorly ridden motorcycle is known as the New York Jets.

    Just ask Tim Tebow.

  41. magicbucs says: Jun 8, 2013 11:44 PM

The jets franchise is a mess. This invite to camp proves it.

  42. spedman24 says: Jun 9, 2013 1:17 AM

Relax giants fans your elite team had 9 wins last year…it’s sad that this is as good as it gets for little blue

  43. jprcox says: Jun 10, 2013 11:09 AM

This guy is bad news. Look at last year, starting out with Seattle – didn’t make it into preseason, and then played 1 game for NE. I am sooooo surprised John I. brought him in!

  44. badintent says: Jun 11, 2013 1:02 AM

Hawks didn’t need him , want him. too busy grooming a rookie QB to have a great season !! This guy will be lucky to get a tryout in CFL.Try riding your bike in knee deep snow, Kellen
