Bears sign Tony Fiammetta, which might send a signal

Maybe it’s all just a coincidence.

But not longer after a Bears fullback was arrested for the second time this offseason, the team signed another one.

According to his agent, former Panthers and Cowboys fullback Tony Fiammetta has signed with the Bears. Fiammetta, a former fourth-round pick, was with the Patriots briefly last offseason as well.

While the first set of charges against Evan Rodriguez were dropped, the organization can’t be pleased with his recent DUI arrest, and the unwarranted attention created by a guy at a fairly fungible position.

    The lowest level position on the field gets filled by guys named Fiammetta and Rodriguez. It’s the same everywhere.

    I thought Fiammetta was huge for Dallas during Murray’s breakout season…good pickup.

    Note to kids: never play fullback. They have a dirty job and get very little notice or respect even when they are good.

    @gabbert

    You mean kind of like Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, or Rafael Nadal right?

    Fiametta is a cool guy if you’re looking for someone to flake mid training camp and leave.

    Fiammetta: Italiano, not Latino.

    Latinos are not the only ones with vowels at the ends of their names.

    The name Fiammetta is derived from the Italian “fiamma” (flame, fire) and the diminutive suffix “-etta”: hence Fiammetta, or “little fiery one.”
