Cowboys right tacke Doug Free got his pay cut in half last month, but he doesn’t mind.

Free, whose pay was reduced from $7 million to $3.5 million, says he’s glad to know that he’ll stay with the Cowboys -- who almost certainly would have cut him if he hadn’t agreed to that pay cut.

I’m happy, yeah,” Free said, via the Star-Telegram. “Got to be. Got to stay positive and keep working hard.”

Free said he doesn’t like dwelling on contract details and wanted to get it over with.

“I think both sides got what they wanted out of it. I’m just going to do my best and work hard,” Free said. “I don’t want to look at the business part or the money part. I just like playing football, and that’s what I like to do.”

That’s what Free will do now, without the constant specter of taking a pay cut or getting cut hanging over his head.
