Plenty of teams are holding minicamps this week and that means players under contract are facing the first events of the offseason where their attendance is mandatory rather than voluntary.
That switch will lead players who have been working out on their own or staying away from the team in hopes of landing a long-term contract to rejoin their teammates for a little work before everyone scatters to the four corners until training camp. Dolphins defensive lineman Randy Starks is one of the players who has been staying away, but it seems he’s ready to bring himself back from exile.
Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports that Starks will be present when Dolphins minicamp gets underway on Tuesday after staying away from offseason workouts with the Dolphins because he wants to turn his franchise tag into a multi-year deal with the team. Starks has signed his tender, so his presence will be no great surprise as he’d be subject to fines if he didn’t report for work.
There hasn’t been much chatter about a deal being in the pipeline for Starks, which likely leaves him to play out this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent as the Dolphins don’t have any pressing need to cut down his $8.5 million cap number with the tag.
