Shawne Merriman says he was just dehydrated

On Sunday night, former Chargers and Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman was rushed to the hospital with what authorities described as a “medical emergency.” The Los Angeles Times was the first of multiple news outlets to report that Merriman was treated for an overdose after ingesting a combination of alcohol and an unspecified other drug.

But Merriman says that’s not true at all.

According to Merriman, who was feeling well enough to be on Twitter within hours of the incident, he was just dehydrated. Merriman says that after getting some fluids, he was fine.

The 29-year-old Merriman announced his retirement this offseason after his once-promising NFL career was repeatedly hampered by injuries.

I don’t know, I have been really really drunk more than a few times in my earlier years and never ever had to taken to hospital for anything related to drinking too much!!

He’s just working on his post-NFL version of ‘Lights Out’. But can he do it 17.5 times in one year?

Shawne, the thing is it doesn’t matter what story you tell. If you were dehydrated, it would come from stupidity seeing as how there is no lack of drinking water in this country.

If it was something else, and only you and the medical staff know for sure, that will be revealed too if you lie to cover it up yet keep doing it.

It will be revealed when your tragedy is in the obits.

Shockey said the exact same thing. I think it’s code for “so drunk I was blotto”. Hangovers are hangovers because of dehydration for one thing.

Celebrities become seriously dehydrated more often than do you and I…

Funny how drugs and alcohol can do that to you.

I’ve never understood why anyone, unless they’re in the desert, would allow themselves to become so dehydrated that they were forced to seek medical attention. When I’m dehydrated my muscles start to cramp up and I immediately drink a bunch of water and everything is ok.
Athletes and other celebrities use this excuse very commonly when they’ve been abusing drugs and alcohol. I’m not sure why they think we’re so stupid that we would believe them.

This is very sad. The guy’s obviously very depressed and in dire emotional straits. Whatever you thought of him as a player or person, he’s not the spawn of Satan, and he doesn’t deserve to be suicidal.

And didnt he literally have this same situation like 5 years ago? Some player did…im pretty sure it was him

My faith in my fellow posters is stronger now that no one believes this “dehydration” story. What a flimsy excuse and code for drugs/alcohol.
