Holmes, Cromartie exchange pleasantries

Cromartie AP

With the available evidence indicating that quarterback Mark Sanchez will hold his starting job in New York — and that the Jets will try to dilute the opposing defenses’ prep time for Sanchez by using Geno Smith in specific situations — receiver Santonio Holmes realizes that Sanchez likely will be buttering Holmes’ bread.

And so Holmes is ready to defend his, sniff, quarterback.

Per Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, Holmes was “jawing” with cornerback Antonio Cromartie at practice on Wednesday, after Cromartie got “physical” with Sanchez, who was blocking on a reverse.

Apart from the fact that no one should be getting “physical” with anyone else during offseason workouts, it’s stupid that Cromartie would do anything to jeopardize in any way, even slightly, the health of the potential starting quarterback.

And it’s admirable that Holmes stepped up to let Cromartie know it was stupid.  It’s another sign that Holmes has matured, after years of being anything but.

I bet Cromartie catches more passes from Sanchez during training camp than Holmes does. And that’s even if he doesn’t line up as a WR.

“…it’s stupid that Cromartie would do anything to jeopardize in any way, even slightly, the health of the potential starting quarterback.”

I would normally agree with you, but not when that QB is Mark Sanchez.

    Geno must be terrible.

    Really? Prep time for Sanchez?

Strange to see Holmes and Cromartie maturing actually.

Wow a posting about the Jets without a negative spin.

Wow, I seriously love how the media is clueless. Rex Ryan said at the start of camp Mark Sanchez would be the first to get first team reps but it doesn’t mean he is starting. And there all ignoring the fact that Geno Smith took all the first team
    Snaps today as well.

It’s not stupid at all, actually. Especially when it’s concerning a guy who, in the past, has been portrayed as lazy.

Cro’s the leader of the secondary, with Revis’ departure. He’s setting the tone.

And on top of all that, IT’S MARK SANCHEZ, do you truly think people will be pest if he’s injured?!

Why must Geno be terrible? Hes been through 11 practices and is still getting acclimated to the NFL. Everyone acts like there is an arsenal of weapons for either sanchez or smith to utilize. Martys offense is all about timing, and it takes more than 11 practices to build a repore.

listening to you rail against any contact in OTA and mini camp is getting old.

If that were Tebow coming at Cromartie, Cromartie would have been cowering in the end zone pretending to be blocked so that he did not have to be touched.

That being said, Cromartie had a great year last year so I am hoping that he can do it again and be a good mentor for the young corners (Milliner and Wilson).

I agree with you REALLY? What the hell are the meetings, OTA’s, Training Camp and preseason for? SMH

Not a sanchez fan but been hearing he looks to be the better qb so far.. rooting for geno but if he doesn’t beat out sanchez.. he ain’t ready.. holmes and sanchez need to get on the same page ..I’m glad be stuck up for him. Holmes is not great. But sanchez needs help wr need to step up. Last year was no offensive effort!

If you have watched Cro play, let’s be honest here how physical does he really get?

  19. skinnypost7 says: Jun 14, 2013 3:46 PM

The fact that you said a physical confrontation is unacceptable demonstrates that you know zero about football and have never played a down in your life. Fights in camp are good 95% of the time it means everyone is hot, focused and playing hard.
