Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is fine to talk today, but he’s not ready to say if he’s going to be ready to play in Week One.
Holmes wouldn’t commit to being back on the field for the Jets’ opener against Darrelle Revis and the Buccaneers, after last year’s Lisfranc injury.
“It would be a great matchup, it would be a lot of fun to go out there against an old nemesis,” Holmes said, via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “A guy who’s coming off an injury himself, I wish him much success this season, and hopefully he’s prepared and ready just like I will be.”
Asked if he’d be ready by then, Holmes replied “No comment,” and also wouldn’t say whether he’d be able to practice when training camp opens in late July.
He did offer a general sense of optimism, but said during his rehab he had to “learn how to walk again.”
“It’s been that hard to just get the feeling of your body to move in an everyday motion for so many years,” he said. “To have something like this happen, it kind of puts a damper in your whole physical ability to do anything.”
If he’s not back, it also puts a damper on his pal Mark Sanchez’s ability to move the Jets downfield, or hang onto his job.
