Steelers sign Landry Jones, wrap up draft class

The Steelers no longer have to worry about signing draft picks.

The team announced Thursday that they have reached agreement on a contract with fourth-round quarterback Landry Jones. Jones is the ninth of nine draft picks to sign their rookie deals with the Steelers, leaving them with no housekeeping to do on that end before camp gets underway this summer.

There were moments during his career at Oklahoma where it looked like Jones would be a first-round pick for a team looking for a franchise quarterback, but they were matched with too many moments when Jones looked overmatched by defenses that didn’t let him throw with his feet set. That’s how you wind up going in the fourth round and Jones will have to show that his arm strength is enough to overcome his shortcomings to wind up as a starter as a pro.

Barring catastrophe, that won’t happen in Pittsburgh anytime soon. Ben Roethlisberger and Bruce Gradkowski are the top two quarterbacks in Pittsburgh and Jones will spend the year trying to improve enough to move up a rung on the depth chart come 2014.

Somebody looked under the sofa cushions and found some change. Congrats!

That’s right. Just sit back and learn, but stay away from motorcycles and bar restrooms.

You paid $120M for Flacco – enough said.

The Steelers will never even be able to sign any of their picks . . . oh wait a minute. Cheers!

Can’t wait for the season to start. I biggest change the Steelers will show this year, is why they decided to hire Haley and not Caldwell. Our offense will be top 10 this year, while the Ratbirds struggle to kick field goals.

I don’t get it. Landry Jones by himself played against an entire team? So he hiked the ball to himself, the defense knew he couldn’t do anything with it, and he was still able to get in for 2 scores?! Or did he manage a TD and 2 figgies.

Either way, dude must be a beast, 1 vs 11. Colbert, extend his contract by 6 years, $130M.

Hopefully, Landry Jones will work out be a good steelers qb for years to come……The steelers draft signings are set. Not to far from training camp and the steelers can start working towards getting to the confetti game. Go Steelers!!!

Hopefully no team in the AFCN drafted any Aggies to destroy Jones like they did in the Cotton Bowl. Oh wait, Sean Porter went to Cincinnati. Uh oh. Better hope R-Booger stays healthy.

When was the last time Joe Flacco and DELAWARE played in the Cotton Bowl? Just wondering.

  13. Joemontanaflacco says: Jun 13, 2013 7:53 PM

Flacco just played in the Superbowl, where he was the MVP. I’m surprised you hadn’t heard about it. It was all over the news.

  14. bobzilla1001 says: Jun 13, 2013 9:09 PM

I don’t think Landry Jones was eligible to participate in the Super Bowl last season. I’ll have to double check that.
So when was the last time Joe Flacco and DELAWARE played in the Cotton Bowl? Take your time.

  15. motmot43 says: Jun 14, 2013 7:54 AM

oh boy everybody jump for joy because wacko flacco made it to a superbowl and was the mvp let’s see how well he does this year with half of the team either retired or traded to another team

  16. Joemontanaflacco says: Jun 14, 2013 9:10 AM

You’re right. Jones was not eligble to play in the Super Bowl last year. Neither was Roethlisbooger, Dwyer, Miller, Brown, Sanders, Pouncey, Harrison, Woodley…do you want me to go on? Oh wait, I should mention Ziggy Hood wasn’t eligible either. You know, he’s the player who declared that Flacco was the toughest QB he’s ever faced.

  17. bobzilla1001 says: Jun 14, 2013 10:40 AM

You were bashing Landry Jones. Now, suddenly, you’ve switched to Ziggy Hood.
    Your attention span really sux.
So, when was the last time Joe Flacco and DELAWARE played in the Cotton Bowl? Or any major bowl, for that mater.

If you would actually read my posts, you wouldn’t get so confused. Not bashing anyone. Just mentioned that the last thing Landry Jones needs is to face the Aggies again since they tore him a new one in the Cotton Bowl. And certainly not bashing Ziggy Hood, who recognizes what a great QB Flacco is NOW. You see, in Baltimore, we don’t dwell on the distant past like you Steelers fans.

The past is all you have because that future looks BLEAK with no WR’s to bail Jumpball Joe out. And that defense… It’s like a St. Patty’s parade with all that GREEN (as in garbage newbies).

You heard it here first. Ozzie Newsome wont be able to control himself. He can’t wait to sign a FA WR or trade for one.

“You heard it here first. Ozzie Newsome wont be able to control himself. He can’t wait to sign a FA WR or trade for one.”

Oh God, I can hear it now:
“Ok Ravens, you won two Superbowls in a row but Ozzie had to sign a FA WR to do it…and, don’t forget, in 2012, Charlie Batch…hey youngin….don’t walk away when I’m yellin at you….”

I have zero intentions of actually reading a Montana/Flacco groupie’s post. But thanks for the offer. But I think I’ll just continue to skim through them like I normally do.
