The free agent tailback market got deeper -- and clearer -- with the Broncos’ release of Willis McGahee on Thursday.
When Ahmad Bradshaw signed with Indianapolis on Tuesday, it took a potential featured back off the market.
McGahee, the newest member of PFT’s All-Unemployed Team, is capable of playing that role on his best, too.
In his two seasons with Denver, the 31-year-old McGahee proved he could still handle a heavy workload after the Ravens used him in a part-time role in his final three seasons in Baltimore. McGahee exceeded 1,000 yards rushing in 2011, and he was on his way to eclipse that mark in 2012 before suffering a knee injury.
As it was with Bradshaw, health is the major concern with McGahee. According to the Denver Post, McGahee indicated earlier this week that he was healthy enough to practice.
Now it will be up to teams to do their due diligence on McGahee, who’s had a long, productive, remarkable career -- and who has played like a starter-caliber back the last two seasons.
