With so much attention devoted to ACL patients like Robert Griffin III and Darrelle Revis, it’s easy to forget that the two-time 2009 NFL defensive rookie of the year also hopes to return to form after a serious knee injury.

Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, who tore an ACL on a low peel back block from former Jets guard Matt Slauson in October 2012, said Friday Cush that clearance to practice is expected prior to the opening of the team’s training camp.

Via Nick Scurfield of the Texans’ official website, Cushing said he’ll be cleared by Dr. James Andrews on July 17 -- nine days before the Texans launch their quest for a third straight playoff berth and a first-ever conference title-game appearance, and beyond.
