The Dolphins have signed rookie guard / tackle Dallas Thomas, the club announced Friday. The No. 77 overall pick, Thomas was one of Miami’s two third-round selections.

Thomas (6-5, 306) played left tackle and left guard at Tennessee, playing guard as a senior after two seasons at tackle. According to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the 23-year-old Thomas could back up both spots as a rookie.

“We thought he was a productive player, we thought he was an athletic guy, we thought he stayed on his feet well,” Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said of Thomas in May, according to remarks released by the club. “Obviously young players that have some versatility potentially in the NFL, that’s a valuable tool.”

Thomas recently returned to action in June after missing time because of shoulder surgery.
