The number of unsigned 2013 draft picks continues to drop.

The Falcons announced Friday that they have reached agreement on a contract with cornerback Robert Alford. Alford was the 60th overall pick in April and one of eight picks overall by the Falcons during the draft.

Alford was also the second cornerback the Falcons selected, joining first-round pick Desmond Trufant as newcomers to a spot where the Falcons lost Brent Grimes, Christopher Owens and Dunta Robinson during free agency. Asante Samuel is likely to grab one of the starting spots come the fall with Trufant on the other side and Alford in a prime reserve role.

The only thing that could hold Alford back is the big jump in class from Southeastern Louisiana to the NFL. If Alford struggles to make the transition, the Falcons will have to look elsewhere to fill out their sub packages, a situation that could leave them vulnerable to opposing offenses.

With Alford signed, the Falcons are down to two unsigned draft picks.
