The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that concerns about McGahee’s health were the primary reason he was released by the Broncos.
It’s not clear from the report whether the Broncos believe that McGahee isn’t all the way back from the injury that cut short his 2012 season, or if they simply believe that any running back who has a history of knee injuries and who will turn 32 this year isn’t likely to make it through a full season without getting hurt. But either way, the report suggests that the Broncos aren’t as confident in McGahee’s health as McGahee is.
For Denver, a running back depth chart that includes Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman, Knowshon Moreno and Lance Ball means it just made sense for them to move on to younger players at the position. Regardless of whether or not McGahee will stay healthy this year.
