If you want to find a job at the end of an NFL roster, it helps to know someone.
According to Tim Twentyman of the team’s official website, the Lions are signing former Jaguars tight end Matt Veldman, who was released last week.
He spent last year on Jacksonville’s injured reserve list after a preseason ACL tear, and was released last week to make room for quarterback Mike Kafka.
The Lions probably got a recommendation from new tight ends coach Bobby Johnson, who worked for the Jaguars last year when Veldman was signed as an undrafted rookie from North Dakota State.
