Report: Bishop’s first trip to Minnesota

If Desmond Bishop can prove himself well, he should be in demand.

And there might not be more of a need for the soon-to-be-former Packers linebacker than inside the NFC North.

According to Weston Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Bishop’s first visit once he’s officially a free agent is expected to be with the Vikings.

That report doesn’t include any comments from Bishop or his agent, but the Vikings have been one of the usual suspects for inside linebackers all offseason. Brian Urlacher’s name kept popping up there before he decided to retire, and many thought they’d make a play for Manti Te’o in the draft.

Neither materialized, so linking Bishop to them makes sense, though he’ll doubtless have other teams interested.

A little pre-free agent tampering by the Queens?

  2. breakingb says: Jun 17, 2013 4:14 PM

    Matt Ryan is shocked.

  3. yelix says: Jun 17, 2013 4:15 PM

Saw some people linking him to KC, given the John Dorsey connection. The Chiefs need an ILB next to Derrick Johnson, but I don’t think they have a ton of cap room right now, and Nico Johnson has potential.

Ofcourse it is the Vikings just like their fans are obsessed with the Packers.

  5. gbmickey says: Jun 17, 2013 4:17 PM

They will be sure to overpay as well. Packer discards appear more important to building a team than draf picks.

To the surprise of… no one.
If you can’t beat ’em (very often), try to sign ’em.

  8. unbiasfan says: Jun 17, 2013 4:24 PM

We could find a place for him in our heavily talented defensive core, plus every ex-packer wants to join the Vikings anyways..would be a perfect fit #Skol

  9. tjacks7 says: Jun 17, 2013 4:27 PM

All Packers want to be Vikings. Who’s next? Rodgers? Matthews? Cobb?

  10. firestarter0728 says: Jun 17, 2013 4:30 PM

What, a Packer castoff on the Vikings??? No way!!! Not even Nostradamus could have seen this one coming.

  11. packhawk04 says: Jun 17, 2013 4:36 PM

“All packers want to be vikings.”

Should say, “all packer players that the packers dont want anymore go to the vikings.”

  12. thegreatgabbert says: Jun 17, 2013 4:36 PM

Des left Lambeau Field, drove along Lombardi Drive, until he came to Brett Favre Trail. Which took him all the way to Minnesota.

  13. Rick Spielman is a Magician says: Jun 17, 2013 4:38 PM

Far be it from me to doubt Weston Hodkiewicz, but it’s worth noting that every time the Vikings have been linked to a potential linebacker from outside the team, the reports have been wrong.

Nevertheless, if the guy can play, bring him in. We’re short at that position. It wouldn’t be the first Ted Thompson mistake the Vikings have taken advantage of.

  14. packmangamble says: Jun 17, 2013 4:45 PM

Of course his first trip is going to be to Minnesota because they’ll sign anybody! He’s damaged goods!

  15. jazsrt says: Jun 17, 2013 4:47 PM

If the Packers are releasing him who cares where he goes?

After all, they have the future hall of famer A.J. Hawk to replace him.

  16. voicefreason says: Jun 17, 2013 4:49 PM

Every Packer’s players dream home: The Vikings! Can you blame any of them??!! LOL!

  17. GenXJay says: Jun 17, 2013 4:50 PM

Of course he will. He wants to be honored & respected for his work.

  18. duluthvikesfan says: Jun 17, 2013 4:50 PM

All of this Vikings talk is a bit early. He would need to clear waivers first. And considering there are a number of teams in need of a linebacker, don’t be to shocked if some team claims him even at his high price tag. Even if he does clear waivers, we still don’t know how healthy he is. He hasn’t even been able to do any off season stuff with the Packers. With all that said, if he is healthy he would be a great pick up for any team in need.

  19. ruvelligwebuike says: Jun 17, 2013 4:52 PM

If the Vikes do sign him, I’m sure it will be raucous celebration.

There may even be some Minnesotans willing to go balls to the wall and have that third Michelob Golden Draft Light.

  20. anarchopurplism says: Jun 17, 2013 4:52 PM

Good to see the green n yellow trolls obsessing about the Purple in June.

  21. ncm42 says: Jun 17, 2013 4:54 PM

Ruvell, it appears you’ve given that scenario quite a bit of thought. Hmmmmmm…

  22. vikingsgohard says: Jun 17, 2013 4:56 PM

Should have known these ignorant fools would skip the actual article especially “this is not the response of bishop or the Vikings” just a speculation as to it fits a need which means nothing packers fans just think there players are better then any other team!?… That is until they leave lmao

  23. whatjusthapped says: Jun 17, 2013 4:56 PM

Here’s the thing, nobody knows what his true medical status is. But the Packers had to be pretty convinced that he was damaged goods to let him go. Its not like AJ Hawk is the answer, a merely serviceable LB at best.

But the Vikings are like the ugly girl standing in the corner at the high school dance. She will take on all comers because she knows she is lacking and will never be on the same level as the others. So let the Vikings sign him, declare all their needs at ILB are solved and the Superbowl awaits. Its not like we haven’t heard it before and nobody has to go too far out on a limb to say Bishop is not what he used to be.

  24. filthymcnasty1 says: Jun 17, 2013 4:57 PM

I think Viking fans act like this primarily because they are losers.

  25. chi01town says: Jun 17, 2013 4:59 PM

what ever happened too ” next man up” oops I guess cheesebay ran out of players to turn they back on. Now the good players dont wanna go to cheesebay because they know how they will get treated

  26. Dream_Machine says: Jun 17, 2013 4:59 PM

Seahawks for a chance to start and could be depth until he is fully 100%. JS & PC, lets do it!

  27. jma814 says: Jun 17, 2013 5:16 PM

I am a 56 year Packer Fan. As to Bishop looking at the Vikings, I say this. These are young athletes with a shelf life of 10 to 15 years, depending on their position, that have to make a life time of money in a short amount of time. This is not an allegiance question for them, it is about a paycheck. If the Pack let Bishop go, his job is now to find another job and quickly. So good for him. He gave us some good play and exciting moments.
I know, I know, the poor millionaire is without a job. LOL
But the Pack is going to have an incredible year now that we are adding a running game to support Rogers passing game. GO PACK!!

  28. billbrasky72 says: Jun 17, 2013 5:33 PM

Obviously not a good fit as a Packer linebacker. His hair simply isn’t mesmerizing enough to properly hypnotize Packer fans.

  29. goody20 says: Jun 17, 2013 5:39 PM

Who would have thunk it… Fudge packer fans crying because someone that used to be on their team is gonna play for someone else.. Wow no way..

  30. ponderthedumpoffking says: Jun 17, 2013 6:16 PM

Good luck, Desmond. You’ll be missed. You should take the Vikings for all you can, like Greg did. This contract is about money, since they already have a ring.

May as well take some non-contender’s money.

  31. anactualnflowner says: Jun 17, 2013 7:05 PM

Hahaha! Has there ever been a football team more jealous of another? Ridiculous! Now that I think about it when I went to Packers training camp last year, I thought I saw a bum digging in a trash can at the Packers facilities. I have now come to the realization that it was just Rick Speilman.

  32. rhusby28 says: Jun 17, 2013 7:11 PM

For those of you who think Bishop has to clear waivers, you are wrong. Bishop has enough years to be a vet, there for he becomes a free agent immediatly. For you Packer fans who say the guy is washed up, you are morons and don’t understand money. I guess who would expect someone who pees in a sink to understand you can’t pay 3 ilb’s starter money.

  33. taintedsaints2009 says: Jun 17, 2013 7:16 PM

This is a great pick up if the Vikings can get him. They have NO linebackers! Greenway has a knee injury. That’s always an indication he is not healthy enough to play when the season starts.

I just wonder why the packers would release this guy because he was a monster. Maybe that injury is much worse than thought.

  34. rohlo says: Jun 17, 2013 7:37 PM

go figure all the vikings do is sign ex packers and still cant make a superbowl let alone win one! kinda like a guy who has no game trying to hook up with his friends ex girlfriends who are all used up! getting sloppy seconds…lol vikings GM= we’ll just ride the coatails of ex packers draft picks.real lazy gm there in minneapolis!

  35. im2fast4you123 says: Jun 17, 2013 7:59 PM

Funny cuz favre, sharper and longwell all had their best seasons with minnesota. Leave it to the packers to always let players go in their prime. Watch jennings have a break out year. It will funny when bishop blows up for which ever team he lands with. The packers organization has never given any respect to its past and present star players.

  36. mackstrong2013 says: Jun 17, 2013 8:22 PM

  38. banlarson says: Jun 17, 2013 8:44 PM

Let’s see, who have the Vikes signed from GB…Longwell, Sharper, Favre, and Jennings. The first 3 were all Pro Bowlers in MN and Jennings has a decent shot as well. When the Packers discard players in their prime why wouldn’t you sign them. Packers will be lucky to be 8-8 this year.

  39. packmangamble says: Jun 17, 2013 10:19 PM

Well, and if he actually turns out to be a good player with a lot of gas left in the tank, Seattle will pick him up next year for much less than he was earning in either GB or MN because he will want to join the Seahawks on their mission to repeat this coming season’s performance.

Yea pretty hard to argue that that old perv had his best year statistically in Minny. Unless you’re a Packer fan, then I imagine you just do the usual smash your keyboard with closed fists and see what happens.

After reading most of these posts I have come to realize that the VikQueens will get the award for stupidest fans award. Your making fun of the Packers for releasing a guy coming off an injury when we already have Clay Matthews, Nick Perry and A.J. Hawk. Keep doing what your doing because you’ve won sooo many Super Bowls because of it! Haha.
