Erin Henderson confident he’ll be Vikings middle linebacker

With some uncertainty still surrounding their middle linebacker position, the Minnesota Vikings are bringing in recently released linebacker Desmond Bishop for a visit on Wednesday.

The Vikings have planned on shifting Erin Henderson inside this offseason to serve as their starter after primarily serving on the outside during his time in Minnesota. But Henderson doesn’t feel there should be any uncertainty whatsoever. He has no doubts he will be the Vikings starting middle linebacker.

I’m playing the Mike,” Henderson said, via Judd Zulgad of 1500ESPN.com.

It’s just another possible replacement for Henderson that has cropped up this offseason. Manti Te’o, Brian Urlacher and now Bishop have all been considered as options to fill the Vikings middle linebacker role. It’s actually angered Henderson to have to continually hear about guys who will be taking a job he firmly sees as being his.

Henderson isn’t opposed to the Vikings signing Bishop if he can add to the talent at the position. He just had no intentions of letting Bishop, or anyone else, take his starting job.

“I have a chance to play Mike now, I don’t see why I would let it slip out of my hands or let it go any other way,” Henderson said. “So, that’s what my mindset is and that’s what I’m thinking.”

Sorry Erin, but even as a die hard Vikings fan, I’d like to see Bishop brought in. Not only would it be great to see them add some strength to one of their weakest positions not addressed in the draft, but I would love to hear Packers fans complain about another mistake made by their over-rated GM – Ted Thompson.

Can’t wait to watch the Vikings beat the hapless, tasteless Packers 2 games this season and win the NFC North #Skol

That’s just the kind of attitude you want your players to have. Henderson is going to work hard to start at MLB. If he can’t do it, he’ll start at OLB. The more competition, the better.

I can’t wait for the queens to sign bishop and win another super bowl, oh wait they have never won a super bowl…well at least they can sign another ex packer and see what a super bowl ring looks like…I feel sorry for you bish…go pack go!!!

Erin Henderson is the sort of hapless, tasteless player that is so perfect for the Vikings.

    p.s. He has no ring.

Sorry, Erin, but you’ll never beat out an ex-Packer. You have no chance. Desmond Bishop may not be good enough for Green Bay anymore, but he’s an immediate starter in Minnesota. The Vikings are always trying to get some of that championship aura that surrounds the Packers organization to rub off by signing their former players. It’s both pathetic and funny at the same time, really.

Closet Viking fan tokyo comments 3 minutes after this article came out, what a surprise. Look at all Vikings posts and you’ll see him comment within the first 5 minutes on each one. And filthy still hasn’t learned any words other than “hapless” and “tasteless”. If they knew how to read in Wisconsin, I’d advise him to get a thesaurus. And then there are other posts reminding everyone that the Vikings have no rings. Thank you, Packer trolls, for your originality on every single post. Now go ask Uncle Dad to cover your shift at McDonald’s so you can troll some more.

Over the last 15 games, Green Bay has dominated the Vikings 11-4. Total score over that time: Packers 407, Vikings 277. These games include GB 45 – MN 7, GB 31 – MN 3 (at MN), and GB 34 – MN 0. Owned, plain and simple. The best part is that the Vikings’ greatest rival is the Packers, yet you are an afterthought for the Packers, because the Bears are our greatest rival, not the Vikings. Truth.

His brother would be still playing but he said 3 million would make it too difficult for him to play because he would resent other players who make more $. Way to throw away your career EJ.

  13. vikinganswer says: Jun 19, 2013 1:24 AM

No loss if Bishop doesn’t sign. There is probably a good reason he cant stick with a team that has a horrible defense like GB, he cant play.

How many more Vikings articles are we going to have to mention Manti Teo in? He isn’t on our roster and none of us Viking fans want him to be.

    Intensity. I like it.
Proving he’s worthy at starting MLb is entirely up to him.
if Vikings sign a prospect at Lb, another ex-cheese who got the hook & is pissed, this should make for a great competition at position.

  16. filipinoviking says: Jun 19, 2013 5:29 AM

Henderson wants it. This is good for him. The knock on him is he’s too nice to grab it and keep it. He’ll never be elite but if he can perform like his older brother did, he’ll be good. Constantly having his back against the wall maybe what a guy like him needs to excel.

He sounds like a real go-getter.

The Vikings have a history of destroying their current player’s confidence prior to the season even starting. A few years back, they drafted T Jack (a reach at any round but taking him in the 2nd was just a harbinger of draft mistakes to come at the QB position) and then traded for Sage. Next, they promptly threw both under bus when they embarrassingly courted BrINT Favre when Childress picked him up at the airport sporting a brand new pair of knee pads.

Now Erin Henderson is set to take over the position and they start courting Bishop, a better player when healthy (and if the Viking trolls would think about this for a second, if he were healthy, do you think the Packers would have cut him loose?). Bishop, who by the way is not going to sign with the Vikings, looms in Erin’s head and he knows deep down in his heart that the Vikings don’t think that much of him. Football, or any sport for that matter, is difficult to play when you know that management thinks of you as second rate. An apt description for the entire Viking franchise.

Okay we ALL know the Vikings have never won a superbowl. Everyone knows that. Do you Packer fans think you can come up with something more original? Or better yet, as a better way to spend your time, help your team find a way to stop Adrian Peterson? It’s pretty sad when the guy has 99 yards rushing and you think you “stopped him”.

Good, use that anger, Erin. It worked for Rodgers.

He’s proven to be a quality starter on the outside and solid special teams contributor, it’s up to him to lose this job.

As he said to the three 1st rd picks, shut up and make plays and everything else will take care of itself.

I can’t help it that you freaks don’t know how to use a smartphone. Also, I’ve actually been in hiltonhead for an extended Father’s Day weekend. It was glorious. Almost as great as seeing the Packers DOMINATE the Vikings….which they will again.

PS, point out the last game of the regular season all you want, everyone who at least grasps the basics of football knows that the Packers were sitting players, and it still took a last second kick, at home, just to win.

Yay! You’re as good as half the Packers starters!

Hmm, every comment where I say something bad about tokyo ,carl, or twatjusthapped seems to get removed without reason. I didn’t use foul language or anything. Starting to think florio (and associates) are getting there D sucked by the pack trolls, just so they have power over vikings post’s. How pitiful, but I don’t expect much from the low-life football troll capitol of the world…

Vikings haven’t had a decent tackler in 20 years. Aside from Greenway, tackling on the Vikings blows.

Hey Outlaw, it is cute how you have taken the past 15 games during a streak of rebuilding for the Vikings. The Vikings have the record for most wins in a row between the two teams (7). The Packers won the first six games between the two teams, which is understandable since the Vikings were an expansion team. Since then, the series is tied at 49 with one tie. The bears lead the series against the packers by four and the vikings lead between the bears by four. Sounds like all around rivalry to me Einstein. Let’s see what the streak is in five years from now. Me thinks the Vikings will have the edge by then.

Talk about revisionist history. There may have been one starter who was out with an injury. Now you have them resting half their starters? Pathetic.

Erin’s past suspension for performance enhancing drugs really doesn’t matter too much for this season.

He is the perfect linebacker for blitzing Aaron Rodgers and covering down field. You should not make fun of Erin’s macho name. He is not the doughnut hole of the defense.

Still, Manti Te’o, with his grasp of reality, would have been a perfect viking. Too bad he can’t learn from Erin.
