Giants think David Wilson’s improved in pass protection

During the 2012 season, Giants running backs coach Jerald Ingram hammered rookie running back David Wilson for not being a complete running back, with a particular emphasis on the need for Wilson to become a better pass blocker if he wanted to become a major part of the team’s running game.

Wilson did see more time in the final weeks of the regular season and Ahmad Bradshaw’s departure means that he’s in line for a lot of playing time in his second season. Ingram said that Wilson has “grown” during the offseason in terms of his understanding of the offense, including the vital role of keeping Eli Manning from being planted in the turf.

“There are some goals that he has to accomplish for us,” Ingram said, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPNNewYork.com. “He’s definitely on a better track than he was a year ago in understanding our protections and doing those kinds of things. I think we’ll take advantage of his natural ability as much as we can.”

Andre Brown is on hand to provide balance, Ingram referred to the tandem as a “thunder and lightning-type situation,” but Wilson’s playmaking ability will be tough to take off the field if he proves competent as a blocker. Ingram notes that you can’t tell much about blocking until everyone’s in pads, which means August will bring more of an idea of whether Wilson’s reached that level.

How cute. This guy gets hurt when the wind blows. Fragile just like that entire franchise. #RedskinsNFCEastChampionsuntilatleast2030

That was my first concern when I heard the G-Men gave Bradshaw his walking papers.

Ahmad was one of the top pass protectors at HB in the league and during the Super Bowl seasons he made some key blocks to buy extra time for Eli to look downfield. Wilson has big play ability but if he can’t make those same blocks the Giants will not be successful.

The Giants might actually see the Thunder & Lightning tandem back since the Bradshaw & Jacobs days.

By the 5th game, TB will be kicking itself for trading up to draft the one dimensional Doug Martin.

If David Wilson is fragile, Bob Griffin must be Mr. Glass from Unbreakable. Must suck to be second fiddle to the Ravens in your own backyard. FAIL!

Barry Cofield can show Bob Griffin what a SB ring looks like since he probably will never win one himself. FAIL!

LVS makes it absolutely impossible to root for the skins even though I can’t stand the G-Men.. I do respect them though, and hope they drop 40 points on RGimp3 and his boys both times this year

Again, it must be pointed out that established posters that have been with the site since prior to the corporate takeover have their comments blocked for no apparent reason, yet this child is allowed to post the same Redskin nonsense incessantly. At least the infamous Dallas poster of yore, VoxVeritas, was somewhat witty and unique. “Logical” is a just a bore. Just do away with the comments section. It’s clear you don’t respect your readers enough to post the intelligent comments, yet you open your arms to this drivel. You wanted an excuse to get rid of comments. Congratulations, by giving trolls open access to comments, while censoring longtime readers, you manufactured one. Do ALL of us a favor – shut it down.

Ahmad Bradshaw IS a complete running back, and now we have him! Go Colts!

The O-line isn’t getting any better…so they better hope that their RBs can block……here comes the NFC East blitz package, Eli!

Of course they do, they have to, since they cut AB. For our sake, we better hope he has.

I’m with east96st and Mr Wright212. It’s no secret we’re Giants fans and can appreciate intelligent banter with our divison rivals, but the little pimple faced sadskins wipe that was probably wasn’t even born when the Sadskins last won a Super Bowl has really diminished the fun of reading the comments section. I rarely read the site much less the comments any more. It was fun for a while but now it’s becoming a waste of time, losing any entertainment value. Sad.

Which is why he played in all 16 games last year? Not to mention its a franchise who’s Qb is the current ironman at the position. Logic, you dont have it.

I stopped acknowledging him during the middle of last season. Why do people still bother?

  24. maurysline says: Jun 19, 2013 6:45 AM

Just about every RB the Giants have had over the years who came in and needed to ‘get better at blocking and protecting the QB’ has done just that. It would be hard to find a quality RB that sat on the bench, or was released/traded by the team because they never were ‘coached up’ and learned how to do it. And Wilson will be the same. They make it utterly clear to all these backs…block…or learn how to block…or sit.
