Bernard Pollard says Titans’ mission to “Kill!!!”

AP

While the Bills and defensive end Mario Williams were quick to backpedal, it doesn’t appear Titans safety Bernard Pollard’s interested in stepping away from a controversy.

Instead, he’s running full-speed toward one.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, Pollard has a hand-written message taped to the front of his locker at the Titans facility which reads: “Goal — Super Bowl. Mission — Kill!!!”

And lest you think it’s being taken out of context, here’s Pollard himself to explain.

“Our goal is the Super Bowl, and our mission is to kill,” the veteran safety said while pointing to the note. “And if someone doesn’t like it, then who cares? I really couldn’t care less. It is not our responsibility to make anyone else happy, to please you, to care about you.

“Our responsibility is to protect LP Field and our responsibility is to steal wins on the road. And our responsibility is to [beat you up] as a defense, and that’s what we’re going to do on every single play. You have to have that mentality because nobody cares about the Tennessee Titans. Nobody. So you have to take the respect. That’s what we have to do. . . . Yeah, this team can get to the Super Bowl.”

You’d think that a team that just hired Gregg “Kill the head and the body will die” Williams this offseason might be more sensitive to such language.

The Bills were quick to distance themselves from the “kill ‘em,” remarks attributed to defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, and while Pollard enjoys the tough-guy act, the Titans would be wise to follow suit.

  1. Oh my! better press charges for attempted murder!

…Or just be an adult and realize its a figure of speech thats used in a violent sport and will not go away no matter how many articles you write about these harmless comments

  2. Keep this up and he’ll be on his 4th team in 6 years. Can he just let his play speak for itself.

  3. Roger Goodell believes installing metal detectors between the locker room and the football field for the players to go thru would be a great idea.

  4. I dont have any problem with him saying his mission is to kill. My problem is his goal of the Titans going to the superbowl. How about getting to the playoffs first or not being the third best team in your division.

  5. I’m all for many types of political correctness but the USA has become a country of wimps if we can’t differentiate the use of “kill” as a metaphor as opposed to actually going out and injuring and killing someone.

And I hate Pollard and think he’s a dirty player, but as a country we’ve become entirely too thin skinned and sensitive if you can’t use metaphorical terms like this.

  6. “The Bills were quick to distance themselves from the “kill ‘em,” remarks attributed to defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, and while Pollard enjoys the tough-guy act, the Titans would be wise to follow suit.”

Are you kidding me? Is this how sad of a country we have become? Does PC have to run EVERYTHING? Its just like when we were kids or teens and said im going to kill so and so . It wasn’t ment to be taken seriously. It ment that you were going to kick thier ass or beat them at (insert sport or activity) not that you are going to end their life. What a pansy country we have become.

Polly would be wise to follow suit in case Hernandez hears him yapping.

What is a polly? Isn’t that a name for a bird? As in Polly want a cracker?

  8. It’s getting embarrassing to be an NFL fan these days. I can’t believe this is an issue at all. Goodell and this safety crap is getting out of hand here. I mean really…come on

  9. Good ol’ Gregg Williams, poor bastard just didn’t have a chair when the music stopped and went down. Other than the bounty crap he did exactly what every other D coordinator has done through history.

  10. logicalvoicesays: There’s an NFL team in Tennessee?
I’m sure you feel smug now that you’ve said that. When the day comes that your team has to rebuild, your smugness will cause you shame, and count on it, that day will come. Tennessee folks have a reputation for hospitality. Come to one of our home games and we’ll treat you with more respect than you show here.

  11. Does this mean if he hits somebody on the field, he will be suspended because he’s trying to kill someone?? God-ell?? Payton, don’t laugh.

  12. Not a fan of his tough guy act either, but bonus points for getting “couldn’t care less” correct.

  13. In a few years each team will have a lawyer on the field between every snap and they will exchange contracts mapping out exactly what is and is not acceptable on a given down. Play-action will be outlawed as deception. Sacks will be excessive cruel and unusual punishment. Don’t even get me started on fake punts or field goals. Also one a running back is handed the ball or a receiver catches it, it will be an automatic.touchdown because they will not be allowed to be touched. The first team to draft a female will be heralded as geniuses for foreseeing the “sexual harrasment advantage” that would come from the player not.being allowed to be touched or even looked at.

  14. Cue the North Korean / gestapo NFL p.r. dept. to coerce, errrr deliver a voluntary retraction from Pollard in 3,2,1…

  15. The Colts are the class of this division, well actually the entire NFL, so when someone on another team says something very stupid it is easy for us to ignore them and chalk it up to having to play for a terrible franchise. The Colts, being the class of the NFL would never allow such an idiotic statement to spew from the mouths of one of their superior and much better looking players, yes, bernie p was good when he played for the Colts, but they saw his waning skills and appropriately sent him to the scum of the AFC South.

Yes when we WERE kids. But it’s 2013. Not 1980. When a kid says that now you have to take them seriously. Not that that has anything to do with Pollard as I’m sure he was talking figuratively, but your comment reminds me of how much things have changed in today’s society in the sense that if a kid said that now you may have to take it seriously.

  17. Pollard should be thrown out of the league and thrown in jail. This should have happened years ago after he cheap shotted Tom Brady. But this is his style. The dirtiest player in the league bar none.

  18. You’re coming to our house in October, Mr. Pollard. Your team is coming to visit the Legion of Boom. Raptors we may be, but like elephants we never forget.

You’re coming to our house, Mr. Pollard. Be afraid…………Be very afraid.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    GO HAWKS!!!

  19. So it’s ok for other teams to use that mentality and slang But not the saints. Roger GOODELL if your reading this. Your are a hypocrit, punk, little nothing that knows diddly squat about the game of football but good job punishing and tarnishing a team for acts that all teams and defensive players follow. Do us all a favor and leave office. Your a disgrace if you allow this to go on when it was those almost exact words that u used against the saints to punish them. Oh and for The record I see nothing wrong in having any defensive strategy with such terms and antics. And I believe it’s necessary for all defensive to have that mentality but you GOODELL wouldn’t have a clue about that, being you prob never played a lick of football in your life you fake

  20. Bernard Pollard played for the Boilers and Marcus played for the Colts!!! In my earnest to have a little fun I left out these facts. I apologize and you all may continue with the rest of your day.

  21. When the day comes that your team has to rebuild, your smugness will cause you shame, and count on it, that day will come. Tennessee folks have a reputation for hospitality. Come to one of our home games and we’ll treat you with more respect than you show here.

What do you mean, “when the day comes”? That hittys team has been rebuilding for 20 years. One half way decent year does not signify they’ve arrived…especially now since their fluky qb will never see a field again.

  22. The issue isn’t that some moron might think he’s speaking literally. It’s that he is begging the refs to watch him closely and flag him for illegal contact if it’s a close play. He can be a very effective player, but undisciplined and unthinking penalties are a major reason the Ravens let him go.

  23. Big deal. The Buccaneers have a billboard on Dale Mabry that says “Join the Fight!” and have been training during OTA’s. Goddell doesn’t care! Lol! Every team does it! (Not sure why they punished just the Saints)

  24. “Keep this up and he’ll be on his 4th team in 6 years. Can he just let his play speak for itself.”

..Um, he kind of has done that. I don’t think the youtube highlights of him hurting people are Hollywood special effects.

  25. If he played for the Saints, good ol’ Roger would take away their 1st and 2nd round picks for the next 3 years.

  26. Do you think Gregg Williams wants to put his foot in Pollards mouth????? @footballady52 🏈
