Cowboys reach deal with third-rounder Wilcox

The Cowboys have unanswered questions at safety, but at least they have them all under contract at the moment.

According to Tim MacMahon of, the Cowboys agreed to a deal with third-rounder J.J. Wilcox Wednesday.

That leaves only their top two picks, first-round center Travis Frederick and second-round tight end Gavin Escobar without deals.

Wilcox could challenge for a starting job this year among an odd lot of players in the secondary there, but his speed (he’s a former receiver and running back at Georgia Southern) and hitting ability figures to lead to a role on special teams in the short term.

He started his career at Georgia as one of their top recruits. He’s pretty athletic and is always around the ball. He’s probably going to be my ‘pet cat’ at training camp this year.

He’s got a ton of potential and could turn out to be a very good Safety, once he learns the position.

His full name is Arnold Irving Wilcox, but they shortened it to “J.J.”.

With Will Allen as a tutor…

Cowboys may have found their Safety for the future.

The Cowboys haven’t been good in 18 years.

Mr. Jones is putting his final touches in place. He’s going for it. Going for another Superbowl run. He’s already a shoo in for the HOF but building a second dynasty will get him in on the first ballot.

I’m tired of hearing year after year how good the Cowboys are going to be. Show me? I doubt it.

Dc, your getting wilcox and jakar hamilton confused. Jakar hamilton is the one who started at uga as a top recruit. Jj played at ga southern and was recruited as a RB. But your right that jj has been all over the place at camp.

I am pulling for Jakar Hamilton.

The Cowboys need help at safety and while Wilcox is very inexperienced at the position, his athletic ability and size are jumping out at the Cowboys workouts. He should contribute this year.
