Report: Police explore whether murder of Hernandez “associate” was drug related

AP

As police investigation the circumstances surrounding the death of an “associate” of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, the case includes whether the incident involved drugs.

According to the Boston Globe (which has temporarily lifted its pay wall for the story, meaning that more than five people will read it), two unnamed law-enforcement officials said detectives are trying to determine whether the apparent murder is drug related.

Hernandez failed multiple drug tests at the University of Florida, greasing the skids for a slide to round four of the draft.

As previously mentioned, WBZ-TV has identified the victim as 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.  Per Tom Curran of CSN New England, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney has called the situation “fluid and ongoing,” and has declined to confirm the identification of the deceased.

Lloyd’s uncle told the Globe that Lloyd “possibly” is the person whose body was found near an industrial park roughly a mile from Hernandez’s North Attleboro home.  WBZ-TV reports that Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend.

  1. I actually wish PFT would install a pay wall — to discourage Tebowmanics from embarrassing themselves in the comments section. It’s pretty obvious none of them have jobs, so it’s unlikely they would pay-to-play.

  2. Detective Columbo here: Hernandez rented the car for one of his buddies to make a drug buy. They probably “shorted” the dealer. The dealer retaliated the only way drug dealers know how. Hence, a dead body near Hernandez’s home in a car with his name on it.

  3. According to Rotoworld the Victim’s sister dated Hernandez’s girlfriend. That makes the story even more interesting

  4. Let’s put Hernandez in jail right now, please. We need no evidence whatsoever; we have the media.

Woah? Did you say the SISTER and the GIRLFRIEND got together? Interesting indeed!

  6. WBZ-TV reports that Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend.

I think this would make Hernandez’s g/f a suspect as well. I mean you never know. What do we know about the victim other than the fact that he was killed? Was he an abuser? An addict?

Even so, he didn’t deserve to die. But they might as well investigate everyone he is associated with around the time of the crime.

  7. Originally I stated that this wouldn’t amount to a hill of beans. In the long run that likely may still be the case, but surprisingly, beans are beginning to pile up.

  8. Bill Belichek is looking like an even bigger genius for taking Ballard. A year ago your like why??? Now if your a Pats fan, you have a quality player already on the roster.

If Hernandez is in prison Week 1, will Belichick still list him as “questionable”?

  10. Surprised his people havent released a statement that says something like “Aaron has done nothing wrong and is fully cooperating with police in the matter. We can not give any additional details die to the sensitivity of the case… Blah blah”

The fact they haven said a word is very strange…

And he’s looking not so much like a genius for drafting AH.

Why? Even if this ultimately ends his career (which is still a complete unknown), Bill still got a few good years out of him and I’m pretty sure they won’t have to continue to pay him if he goes to jail.

Besides, Ballard and Gronk seem like a pretty good TE duo. Throw Tebow in the mix and the Pats are all set. I don’t see how any of this reflects on BB.

Frankly, I’m more concerned over the fact that a 27 year old guy is dead and a 23 year old may have ruined his entire life – a life most people can only dream of.

  13. Hernandez is a Multi Millionaire.. why else would he need to Rent a Car unless it was drug related… he prolly owns like 3 or 4… I cant believe they couldnt find some woman to put the car’s name in.. smh These athletes are so dumb

  14. Did Matt Walsh capture any footage?

If he did, Eric Mangini will be sure to let us all know.

A rental car in your name is going to be traced back to you just as easily as if you owned the car, so I don’t think that’s a smoking gun.

who could be that dumb to rent a car and murder someone in it?”
    ===============================================

Someone who went to the U, never went to class, and failed multiple drug tests even before the biggest job interview of his life (the Combine).

Look, all along this was one of two things:

    1. A drug deal gone bad

    or

    2. A lovers quarrel

    —————————————-

Or both…or neither. How about waiting until all the facts come out before judging him.

  18. If Hernandez has enough cash saved up, he can get away with murder or any other charges. That is how it works.

  19. It’s interesting how all the articles use the term “associate” of AH. Since when do we call a fellow-bong-head an “associate?”
