Alfred Morris feels faster, stronger and smarter

AP

Redskins running back Alfred Morris turned in an excellent rookie season in 2012, running for 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns to help the Redskins to the NFC East title.

Morris had the element of surprise working for him early last season as a sixth-round pick who came into the year with modest expectations. He won’t get any such benefits this time around, which makes it a good thing for the Redskins that Morris feels he’s improved across the board over the player he was during his rookie season.

“I’m definitely psyched to get back out there,” Morris said during an appearance on CSN Washington. “I feel better, I feel faster, I feel stronger. I’m a lot smarter, I’m a lot more confident now. So I’m looking to see how this year turns out.”

There’s been no shortage of positivity about Robert Griffin III’s recovery from last season’s knee injury, but a heavy and productive dose of Morris would make it much easier for Washington to avoid putting too much burden on their quarterback. A bigger, stronger and smarter version of the 2012 Morris can provide that dose and that should make it more likely that things turn out well in Washington.

  1. Yeah yeah … better and better. Just like every other player in the history of the NFL.

  2. My favorite player on the Redskins.

Just a humble, down-to-earth, lunch pail and hard-hat kind of guy who came out as a 6th round pick and broke Clinton Portis’ record.

I remember their first or second preseason game last year, when this dude took a handoff, squared up against Lance Briggs, pancaked him, and kept moving. I sat up in my chair and made a note to draft him in the final round of my fantasy league. That paid off just fine 🙂

Stay humble and keep running hard Alf!

  3. 2,000 yard season?

I’d certainly trade Chris Johnson for Morris … IN A HEARTBEAT!

  4. Alfred Morris’s performance was an apparition last year. As was the entire performance of the Deadskins. Teams will be ready for their ridiculous style of play and Morris will probably blow out his knee week one thanks to the field at Fedex.

  5. also, when Kelly’s crew roll’s in to town week one they will dismantle every facet of Shanahananahhans team. #FlyEaglesFly

  6. Alf single handedly won my FFL for me last year. This man can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for the $800.00 Alf!

I have no words for you, but anyone that wishes harm/injury on another person is as low as it comes.

  8. What a great attitude by a fine young man who is also the best RB in the NFL since John Riggins. The Redskins always managed to find superstars like Griffin and RG3. It is one of the reasons the Redskins are the best franchise in NFL history.

  9. Wonder if he’s going to get a car that’s faster, stronger, and smarter than that 91 Mazda hooptie he sported last year?

  10. Around these parts he’s known as the A-train when he finally stops 3 or 4 people get of him! The skins need to get him the ball on screens more this year it will help RG3 or Cap’n Kirk. HTTS

  11. I love the responses from all you losers who got your butts kicked last season! Alfred Morris was, and is, the nicest, and hardest working RB in the NFL! Who cares about what you losers say? HTTR FOREVER!!

  12. Please check Mr. Morris for a concusion, he must be crazy if he thinks he can replace the Redskins best running back, RGknee.
Seriously though, the Redskins are a terrible franchise with a highly, and I mean highly racist name. How would you like it if your team was called the Office Desks? you haters!!!

  13. Alford Morris is a terrible running back, the fact that he finished second in rushing last year shows how completely weak the NFC is. Look the 49ers lost the SuperBowl to the Ravens, to the Ravens, thats how bad the NFC is. If the colts would have had just one more healthy lineman we would have easily beaten the Ravens, you all know this is true. Anyways, still, the AFC destroys the NFC, CJ Spiller is a GOD! Wow, are you still reading this sucker.

  14. 1600 & 13 tds….. Wow! I didn’t realize his numbers were quite that high. Part of it is shanahan and his zone blocking scheme, but living in palm beach county, I knew this kid was coming out of Fau a complete beast regardless.

  15. Can’t stand the team he suits up for, but the kid was impressive last year no doubt. Obviously the most talented player on the Skins offense, with the bum squad they have at WR and the fragile boy wonder at Qb..

  16. Ppl still talking about the field condition of FedEx Field , I thought this was football when images Of back in the day snow bowl& games played in rain storms that would end endings of baseball . We love the game of football for the heroic battle star , galactic ,with blood & chrome clashing together time & time again . So what’s wrong with a muddy field ? Football is made to get dirty & grimy , plus if you look at statistics it’s a greater amount of chance of a ball carrier to get injuries on artificial grass than real , due to the fact there’s no give in the fack stuff . I remember a while back that the NFL was about to bane the use of artificially simulating grass due to high numbers of ball player receiving ACL , Turf toe , Pulls , & other repercussions . But ppl need to know where the FEDEx Field is located , the area of the DMV doesn’t sustain much growth in vegetation , plus the FedEx stadium is used to hold concerts & other venders for the community so to take care of the playing space of the Redskin is a must this year , I don’t think it’ll be a huge difference in the future . Why ppl bitch-in we for get that 49ers was like playing a pick up game at the beach due to the baseball team sharing the same stadium . Did Joe Montana , or Jerry Rice complain ?! Better yet did they get injuries from the faulty field situation they had ?! No they didn’t , it was called HOME FEIlD ADVANTAGE ! This is football guys not golf or baseball .

  17. Still so many ppl hate and hate…its ok if the skins scare you a little and if ur scared go to church and pray for your team cuz ur idiotic posts do nothing but show ur concern…

  18. Ronbelle, you know losers will give any excuse to try to disguise the fact that they just plain old can’t play!
FedEx field will just have to take one for the team, I guess … But we still own the east!

  19. Hey, colts win! (you wish)
You have big ones to talk about terrible RBs! What did the entire RB squad gain in total rushing yards? 602? Our guy put up over 1600 yards on his own, as a rookie! Don’t be jealous, some day you may get a REAL RB all your own! Oh, and the man’s name is Alfred … Moron!

  20. best player in the NFL? lmao …… that’s the greatest dumb thing I have ever heard…he is a decent player at best… plus he has to prove it wasn’t just a one time thing…but, Peterson is THE best RB in the league, hands down, maybe even ever to play the game… and then there are about 15to20 other”players that are way better than a1 year guy…come on man
