Hernandez loses a sponsor

Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has not yet been arrested, but one of his sponsors isn’t willing to wait around for the outcome.

Per multiple reports, CytoSport, Inc. has dropped Hernandez as a paid endorser.  CytoSport makes products like Muscle Milk (not to be confused with the somewhat less popular product known as Mussel Milk).

It’s a fairly transparent effort to grab some free publicity, via a public declaration that “in light of the investigation” the company is “terminating its endorsement contract with Mr. Hernandez, effective immediately.”

So now we are reminded of the existence of CytoSport, thanks to an announcement that plenty of suckers in the media (oops) will run with.  And we’re also reminded of the existence of Muscle Milk.  And Mussel Milk.

All thanks to the aftermath of a guy being shot and killed.

Drink up?

  1. Wow. It sounds like the inventor of CytoSport took your lunch money as a kid.

Question… so when Nike does the same …?

  3. You seem to be suggesting that CytoSport is taking advantage of the media circus to get some free publicity.

Then you imply that the media are suckers for publishing this ‘news’.

What does that make ProFootballTalk then?

Maybe you should have a double Muscle Milk…

  4. The last paragraph was kinda funny but in all seriosness Hernandez just lost a lot more than an endorsement. He had a lot of potential and coulda been one of the best TE in football but he wasted it.

  5. WOW! So why are you reporting this story then? Isn’t that just adding to the “free publicity”?

  6. Considering you look so much like a man who knows his way around the gym, I’ll take your word for it that we have now been “reminded of the existence of Muscle Milk.”

You do realize this is an extremely popular product and company amongst people who know what they’re talking about?

  7. Well, I’d venture to say of all the things he might lose, this sponsor is probably not cracking the top 20 of his concerns

  8. You didn’t have to write that post if you didn’t want to. Or did CytoSport make you?

It was a joke, that is why he put a (oops) in there. It would be like me saying right now, “well, some jerk is going to have to explain this joke to some commenter (oops).”

  10. He can’t be allowed to play football or lead a normal life until the killer is identified and brought to justice. He knows who did it. So the crime will be solved and the world made a safer, better place with just a couple words from him, If he refuses to do that……

BANNED AND SCORNED. For life. It’s a simple equation, really.

  11. Unless I missed a Hernandez article, how has PFT failed to chime in on the fact that the Patriots asked him to leave their facility (as shown in the pic accompanying this story)?

  12. “Year after year you do all sorts of gr8 things … but murder just 1 guy and none of that matters SMH” … A. Hernandez tweet

  13. Things are going to get worse for Hernandez.
He violated his 2 year agreement and will have to pay full price for a cell phone after destroying the 1st one

  14. Um, no “crimepedrankings”, Muscle Milk is just whey protein … find a gym!

On the other hand, I think CytoSport’s decision to act now is based on Hernandez being caught on camera wearing their gear not gaining publicity for their product. They do quite well without having to take advantage of murder investigations.

  15. I always laugh at these Redskin fans who will use any moment to let the world know RG3 is on their team. Getting worse than hearing about Tebow in every conversation.

  16. “Muscle Milk” advertised in magazines with pictures of dudes wearing thongs and flexing their cheeks. Ponder that for a moment.

  17. How many tebowmaniacs does it take to milk a mussel? All of them–one to do the actual milking and the others to provide the excuse (for coming up empty) that only god can produce milk.

  18. what no raider bashing today, mike ? I guess this was such a huge story so far you had to drop your benevolent crusade against the Raiders.its pretty sad that it takes something like this to a get a day free of raider hate.thanks
