Hernandez loses a sponsor

get-attachment

Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has not yet been arrested, but one of his sponsors isn’t willing to wait around for the outcome.

Per multiple reports, CytoSport, Inc. has dropped Hernandez as a paid endorser.  CytoSport makes products like Muscle Milk (not to be confused with the somewhat less popular product known as Mussel Milk).

It’s a fairly transparent effort to grab some free publicity, via a public declaration that “in light of the investigation” the company is “terminating its endorsement contract with Mr. Hernandez, effective immediately.”

So now we are reminded of the existence of CytoSport, thanks to an announcement that plenty of suckers in the media (oops) will run with.  And we’re also reminded of the existence of Muscle Milk.  And Mussel Milk.

All thanks to the aftermath of a guy being shot and killed.

Drink up?

    Shock and awe.

Wow. It sounds like the inventor of CytoSport took your lunch money as a kid.

Question… so when Nike does the same …?

RGIII has the most endorsements in professional football. He’s the best on the field and off the field. #ThankGodImaREDSKINSfan

    Muscle Milk marketing ad:

Muscle Milk: All the roid-rage you need to kill a man, with the steroids!

I’m headed to the super market to get a sixer of muscle milk. Effective immediately

  8. iammrbinky says: Jun 21, 2013 2:03 PM

Hernandez has far bigger worries then this.

  9. stevecmh says: Jun 21, 2013 2:04 PM

You seem to be suggesting that CytoSport is taking advantage of the media circus to get some free publicity.

Then you imply that the media are suckers for publishing this ‘news’.

What does that make ProFootballTalk then?

Maybe you should have a double Muscle Milk…

The last paragraph was kinda funny but in all seriosness Hernandez just lost a lot more than an endorsement. He had a lot of potential and coulda been one of the best TE in football but he wasted it.

  11. s1138 says: Jun 21, 2013 2:05 PM

WOW! So why are you reporting this story then? Isn’t that just adding to the “free publicity”?

  12. loubearkane says: Jun 21, 2013 2:05 PM

    It took this long?

  13. stillersfan says: Jun 21, 2013 2:05 PM

Considering you look so much like a man who knows his way around the gym, I’ll take your word for it that we have now been “reminded of the existence of Muscle Milk.”

You do realize this is an extremely popular product and company amongst people who know what they’re talking about?

  14. moagecu says: Jun 21, 2013 2:06 PM

    someone doesn’t like muscle milk

  15. touchdownroddywhite says: Jun 21, 2013 2:06 PM

Well, I’d venture to say of all the things he might lose, this sponsor is probably not cracking the top 20 of his concerns

  16. johnelwayishorsefaced says: Jun 21, 2013 2:07 PM

You didn’t have to write that post if you didn’t want to. Or did CytoSport make you?

  17. eastcoastninerfan says: Jun 21, 2013 2:09 PM

One sponsor down, however many more he currently has to go…

  18. catquick says: Jun 21, 2013 2:21 PM

It was a joke, that is why he put a (oops) in there. It would be like me saying right now, “well, some jerk is going to have to explain this joke to some commenter (oops).”

Don’t knock Muscle Milk, I know AP drinks it after workouts.

  21. beerbudsnbevo says: Jun 21, 2013 2:22 PM

That’s ok, he just picked up an endorsement from Glock….

  22. thegreatgabbert says: Jun 21, 2013 2:27 PM

He can’t be allowed to play football or lead a normal life until the killer is identified and brought to justice. He knows who did it. So the crime will be solved and the world made a safer, better place with just a couple words from him, If he refuses to do that……

BANNED AND SCORNED. For life. It’s a simple equation, really.

  23. thingamajig says: Jun 21, 2013 2:27 PM

No problem. Hernandez won’t need much money where he’s going.

  24. FinFan68 says: Jun 21, 2013 2:31 PM

Unless I missed a Hernandez article, how has PFT failed to chime in on the fact that the Patriots asked him to leave their facility (as shown in the pic accompanying this story)?

  25. floratiotime says: Jun 21, 2013 2:33 PM

“Year after year you do all sorts of gr8 things … but murder just 1 guy and none of that matters SMH” … A. Hernandez tweet

On the bright side, he did pick up Winchester.

  27. GenXJay says: Jun 21, 2013 2:41 PM

Things are going to get worse for Hernandez.
He violated his 2 year agreement and will have to pay full price for a cell phone after destroying the 1st one

  28. packerbackernj says: Jun 21, 2013 2:42 PM

Tebow shot Odin Lloyd to clear a starter from the roster.

  29. croteus says: Jun 21, 2013 2:44 PM

How long until the news headline “Head of Marketing for Cytosport Found Dead in Industrial Park”?

  30. bloodisred says: Jun 21, 2013 2:48 PM

Um, no “crimepedrankings”, Muscle Milk is just whey protein … find a gym!

On the other hand, I think CytoSport’s decision to act now is based on Hernandez being caught on camera wearing their gear not gaining publicity for their product. They do quite well without having to take advantage of murder investigations.

  31. Steeley McBeam says: Jun 21, 2013 2:52 PM

Muscle Milk is delicious and nutritious.

  32. thegreatgabbert says: Jun 21, 2013 2:58 PM

Odin Lloyd had to pay for his own equipment to play for the Boston Bandits.

  33. spideysdog says: Jun 21, 2013 3:03 PM

in an ironic twist, Putin will be announced as the new international face of cytosport. coincidence? I think not!

  34. peytonsneck18 says: Jun 21, 2013 3:07 PM

hey now, muscle milk is good, high calorie tho, but good

  35. kingokra says: Jun 21, 2013 3:27 PM

No problem. “Mr. Hernandez, Smith and Wesson on line one.”

  36. antalicus says: Jun 21, 2013 3:28 PM

I always laugh at these Redskin fans who will use any moment to let the world know RG3 is on their team. Getting worse than hearing about Tebow in every conversation.

  37. abninf says: Jun 21, 2013 3:44 PM

“Muscle Milk” advertised in magazines with pictures of dudes wearing thongs and flexing their cheeks. Ponder that for a moment.

  38. hedleykow says: Jun 21, 2013 4:09 PM

How many tebowmaniacs does it take to milk a mussel? All of them–one to do the actual milking and the others to provide the excuse (for coming up empty) that only god can produce milk.
