Bills currently see Brad Smith as a receiver

Smith

The Bills possess a rare dual threat weapon in Brad Smith, who can play receiver and quarterback. They want him to focus, however, on the former.

As explained by Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News, Smith worked exclusively as a receiver in his first offseason under coach Doug Marrone and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. And Smith is happy to finally have a clear-cut position.

“There are some times, honestly, where I feel like, ‘Man, I’d want that home,’ but at the same time I’ve learned so much,” Smith said, via Skurski. “I’m tremendously blessed to be able to play this game. For a coach to say, ‘Brad, we need you to play receiver,’ and then trust me enough to go out there and do what we need to do to win, it means a lot. If a quarterback goes down, and they need me to go in, then I can do that too.”

Smith added that his understanding of the quarterback position allows him to serve as a liaison between the pass-throwers and the pass-catchers.

Two years as a jack-of-all-trades in Buffalo haven’t gone well for Smith. He has thrown two passes (both were picked off), caught 37 passes, and run the ball 34 times.
